Should I pay off this cheque?

  1. We voted about cancelling this fee, but (in my opinion unfortunately) the majority wants to force us all to pay for that, even when we donโ€˜t use these services ๐Ÿ˜…

  2. If it’s uncomfortable for your budget, you can opt in to pay in 4 rates at 1/4 the amount each. But I don’t know anyone doing so, so am not aware of additional costs when doing so.

  3. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ hell yeah, you got no other choice my friend

  4. Don’t understand how it’s allowed that a single-person household has to pay the same amout as a family…

  5. You may prove that you don’t watch any TV or streaming produced in Switzerland, and your fee would be reduced. But you can’t waive the radio part easily, because every car has a radio.

  6. If you live in the woods, with no electricity, no running water, don’t have a cellphone, car, computer, Ipod or whatever… you can try to avoid paying it…

  7. Yes you have to. The voters decided that it is appropriate that every household has to pay a flat fee for something that is mostly entertainment.

Could as well go ahead and do the same with all public expenditures (roads, schools, military, …). Instead of having taxes, every household (or every person?) will from now on just pay something like 30’000 CHF per year.

That is what the people that voted for it deem a fair system.

Hopefully we can vote again in some years when the demographics changed…

  8. i never received one of their bills ๐Ÿ˜‚ guess i didnโ€˜t make it on their list ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  9. If you use TV or Radio – Yes. If not – use opt out form.
There is CHF5000 penalty if they catch you cheating.

  10. Switzerland and their huge array of hidden taxes is why the income tax is so low on paper. Living in Switzerland is like flying with RyanAir.

  11. Can you opt out if you don’t have a TV or radio? I own a smartphone and laptop, but can’t I argue that i don’t use any of their TV or Radio junk with my devices ?

  12. Sadly, yes. It’s like a specific tax for TC, radio, etc. The good news is that it’s lower than before and might get lower in the future

  13. You wouldn’t have to pay this bill if Swiss’ population voted in favour of the No-Billag initiative on March 4 2018, but 71.6% voted against it.
