2 years for sharing a photo is pretty crazy honestly. It’s a pretty clear cut immediate dismissal however a prison sentence seems extreme in itself let alone several years
Outside the old Bailey, the mother referred to the name of the WhatsApp group and said it highlighted an extremely unpleasant culture within the police. She said she couldn’t repeat it and wondered how the media would report it. “Covid and the bleep bleep bleep” she said.
Anyone know what she’s referring to?
I think the general message is police need to stop joking around and really take their jobs seriously.
Clearly not all of them currently do and they shouldn’t think they can get away with things like this given their position of power.
I’m baffled by all the people posting ‘but you get less for burglary or rape’.
The issue isn’t that these sentences were too long but that other sentences are too short.
These men broke the cordon they were meant to be guarding and entered the crime scene, risking contaminating it and endangering the investigation, all for their own evil kicks and laughs.
They deserve all they got and more.
If you’ve ever had any serious interaction with the Met it becomes very clear that on many levels they basically operate as though they are immune to consequence because, more often than not, they are.
We’d have fewer louts if they went back to training police in barracks like they used to. Fewer fuck-knuckles and freaks will make it through if they’re observed like they used to be (both by teaching staff and fellow cadets).
We can thank Theresa May for that little innovation.
I was surprised and heartened to see it. Sends a strong message that when society entrusts you with power, any abuse is a betrayal of society that will be punished. Police across the country will be desperately deleting whatsapp groups as we speak.
I am super delighted at the message to sent on setting high policing standards. We require police to hold the highest standards and hire the individuals committed to upholding the standards. These police officers betrayed ‘police’ as an institution.
I’ll believe they got sentenced to 33 months if after 32.9 months they are still in jail.
Anyone wanna take bets the state finds a way to backpdeal after the anger dies down and lets them off with 80% reduced sentence on appeal or ‘good behaviour.’
Just curious what they were specifically charged with. Is it the very ambiguous-sounding ‘misconduct in a public office’?
