Boris Johnson ‘planning reforms which would let ministers overrule judicial decisions’

  1. I’ve seen it argued that this is nessecary because the judiciary are too left wing….

    I wish I was joking…people genuinely claim this…

  2. Just make yourself a dictator and announce the 1000-year-Tory-Reich already. I’m bored of all the teasing.

At least then us normal people can stop pretending and abandon all hope.

  3. I don’t understand why the government keeps trying things like this surely they’ll be forced into a u-turn.

The government trying things like this won’t be inconquential …. disrupting the constitutional balance may have undesired outcomes.

The judiciary could respond with establishing Judical review of primary legislation . Jurists have already questioned parliamentary sovereignty in R (Jackson) v Attorney General

  4. Honestly I’m just seeing this stuff as extra % points for Yes and excellent points for the Yes campaign to use in debate in Indyref2 at this point.

As always anyone from rUK who wants to move up here and muck in is most welcome to.

    We can escape this.

  5. The idea is horrific enough before you remember the utter melts that we have as ministers and the power this would hand them.

    This is totally normal guys.

  6. What decisions is he wanting to overturn that couldn’t be done through a change of law going through Parliament? It’s just a complete disregard for separation of powers and completely removes the supremacy of Parliament that the brexit mob were braying about to elect this corrupt shower of sh*t. This is genuinely tin pot stuff done by the worst government I’ve had the displeasure of living under.

  7. I remember a few years ago when people who mentioned the sleepwalk into fascism were called lunatics, good times.

  8. It’s a fascist state that is being slowly constructed.

The issue of removing citizenship and removing passports/driving licences for ‘crimes’ is also a big worry. Laws that allow such things always creep to include everyone eventually.

The problem is that millions of people will “vote Conservative” not realising that the Conservative Party is basically dead at the moment. Taken over in fact.

  9. Obviously we’re going to get the usual comments from most about how disgusting this is, but I’m more interested in those of you that are reading this but don’t think this is a big deal, or at least you think this is less bad than other things the other parties may do.

I notice that there are certain “usual suspects” who you see routinely rush to their phones and laptops if some sort of crime story is posted. They will be here before the comments get to double digits if this was a story about Pakistani child abusers, but you simply never see them comment on this stuff.

Are you simply so fearful of lefty “woke” stuff that you have given up on opposing corruption and a slow march to authoritarianism because it sates your biases? Why are you guys always silent on this?

I mean, even to say “no, I support this, I actively want it” isn’t even seen here, so I have to assume that sort of person is simply thin on the ground and most of us see this for what it is, but you guys seem too cowardly to own it and say “yeah I don’t like it, but Labour…”

  10. It sounds like a reform you would expect in some third world dictatorship.

I really hope this is one of those things they’re leaking to the press to test the waters and they get an emphatic ‘Fuck that’ from the public.

  11. Fuck it, just declare Boris as king, dismantle parliment and get it over with. Hell, make calling Boris a fucking Cunt illegal as a bonus. May as well stop pretending everything is normal. Just get it over with.

  12. This is VERY DANGEROUS !!

I believe that ‘Adolf Hitler’ did the same..
Now do we really want to go down that route ??
