Why is this important or relevant?

The whole debate about the “guarantees” is meaningless and its only aim is to distract from the other important issues where our side has basically capitulated to the demands of Turkey.
The great majority of Greek Cypriots do not accept things such as rotating presidency, Turkish vetoes on everything, the “users” of the stolen properties to take priority over the owners, the 80 million Turks to have the freedom to work and live in Cyprus as if they are EU citizens, and many other parameters.
The issue of guarantees is of far lower priority. Turkey has invaded Syria and Iraq and is constantly violating the airspace of Greece and threatens its islands. Those who think that Cyprus would be safe from Turkey merely by ending the guarantees are greatly mistaken.
Our defense can only be actual weapons (to the best of our abilities) and having a stable, democratic state so Turkey wouldn’t have a good excuse to invade again.
