We had Leroy brown tafelbier at grandma’s. Not as sweet as Piedboeuf, I still feel like having it from time to time.
Our doctor advised my mom to give some every meal when I was 5 … Dude was also smoking in his cabinet. Different times.
In 2000 ish I remember it in my school, it was only for teachers and 6th years if I recall. But was considered as better than nothing and piss.
I never had it at school but I’m still using it (the brown version) when cooking Carbonnades / Stoofvlees

At the Lycée Français in Uccle we had it at the elementary school cafeteria. This is mid to late 70’s.
When I tell people this today, they’re incredulous.
I remember my ex born in 87 talking about how they would serve it at lunch in elementary school

Side question since we’re discussing tafelbier – how bad is that stuff for you anyway? Is it really that dangerous to give to kids? How does it compare to sodas laden with sugar?
My parents used to drink this during dinner. Now they switched to real beer.
I actually got my mom to buy some after reading Guust Flater comics. As a kid, I was mildly disappointed. Would try again as an adult though. Hmm.
Born in ’88, one bottle per table of 8 during secondary school.
88′ here and yeah they served me this at school lol. They stopped at one point.

Probably around the time we also had a lecture about how weed is the devil.

At UZ Leuven you can still buy tafelbier to accompany your meal. Even the patients can ask for it with their meals
I still buy it. Because that thing brings me so much good memories from childhood,school, so on so on.
