I had this dish very recently in Chania and it was absolutely delicious. I NEED to recreate it at home but unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the dish.
From what I recall, it was advertised (in english) as either a zucchini or an aubergine salad.
Taste was herby, salty, fresh and umami. Just delish basically.
Thanks so much in advance for anyone who can help me identify this dish.
melitzanosalata probably
Νταρουντε ! Its called Αμμοκαταιγιδα !
Yeah it’s most likely melitzanosalata, crushed aubergine with herbs and spices.
The secret is to get the skins burnt to add flavour.
Some recipes (I prefer the second one, as it’s a more simple taste, without the green peppers, google translate works well enough)
Thank you all so much! Can’t wait to dive into the kitchen this weekend to try to do this dish justice!
As others have said it’s melitzanosalata, but I would like to add this is not the traditional way, as it seems they have added some sort of creme product (I would guess mayo, not sure). Traditionally it is just made with smoked eggplant, peppers, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, herbs, and spices. Way better.
Crucially, it’s eggplant salad with feta cheese as one of the ingredients. That’s what it gives it this unique flavour.
Do you remember the name of the place/where it was to find it on google maps? You might be able to look into the menu in the photo section 🙂

Go pure and traditional…no mayonnaise, no feta.
