I can’t buy Angela’s Ashes from Audible in Ireland

  1. Weirdly, I’m rewatching the Sopranos and they just mentioned Angela Ashes in a book club scene with Carmella (the wife). First time I’ve thought about that book in years and now I see this

  2. Audible not in the business of peddling lies about Limerick. They failed to discuss their well paid employment with Jeffery Bezos.

  3. Why did you not discuss your well paid employment with Jackie Brosnan? Why did you not discuss your years with St Joseph’s Boy Scout Movement?”

  4. I wouldn’t buy anything off audible or similar , you are buying a licence not an actual product , the licence can be withdrawn at any time, this has happened to people purchasing digital movies and music off Amazon or similar before.

  5. Consider this to be a lucky break. It’s a miserable, depressing and sinfully fucking boring excuse for a book.

  6. Are you sure you’re not on the American site? Just looking at the spelling of “catalog”. They definitely use the spelling catalogue on the UK Ireland site

  7. Just checked and it’s available on the BorrowBox app. It’s free to borrow, you just need a library account.

  8. When i was a kid & a portion of fish n chips was split between mam n dad n 4 kids i’m the one who’s sucking the fat out of the wrapping paper that’s true

  9. Just looked it up there and can purchase no problem. Also that version is less than three hours. That’s heavily abridged. The unabridged version is available just fine.

  10. You can rent it from that free Irish library.

  11. They are not saying you don’t have the rights to the audio based on being in Ireland, they are saying _they_ don’t have the legal rights to sell you it in Ireland.

That means in Ireland someone has exclusive distribution rights, and they told audible to fuck off and won’t let them sell it here.

So people telling you to use the UK or US site or whatever won’t make a difference. They are not allowed to sell it in Ireland because someone else has exclusive rights and they won’t share.
