Middle-class drug users could lose UK passports under Boris Johnson’s plans

  1. Is this a real concern ?

And if the Tories are prioritizing taking away the passports of anyone who takes CBD animal gummies, does this represent the Tory priority list as a whole ?

  2. Let’s face it, if this ever comes into effect, it will only affect working class drug users and not well connected, upper middle class folk who like to smoke a joint as part of some bohemian party at the end of their working week in the City.

  3. The drugs trade is horrific but that’s *because* it’s illegal, making it more illegal will make it even worse as it has every time they’ve tried to push it further underground.

    Stupid fucks.

  4. ‘Hello sir/madam. I’m a member of a National Anti-Drugs police task force and we recently seized your dealers phone.

As it may prove difficult for you to ‘score’ for the foreseeable future, have you ever considered just not taking drugs?’

  5. I wonder why they think this is an appropriate time to bring in some nonsense drug laws. Can only assume it’s covering up another story from headlining.

I wonder if they ever think to ask themselves the reasons people might turn to drugs in the first place.

  6. Will there be exemptions for people who need it for work? Like speeding / drink driving offenders sometimes get to keep their licence because they need it for work and losing it would put them in difficulties..

Can see a lot of politicans and friends needing to travel as an essential part of their jobs!

  7. What the actual fuck are these people on? In what way is it appropriate to take away a drivers licence for a non-motoring offence? Like if you drug-drive, obviously you should lose your licence, but otherwise?

No idea how passports even comes into play, what an absolute fucking nonsense.

If you want to punish middle-class drug users but don’t want to imprison, how about making fines a proportion of income rather than a fixed amount?

  8. They won’t though will they…it’s literally another dead cat on the table.

Here we are discussing how conceptually, it is dogshit.

Anyone, regardless of views on drugs, should be able to recognise how dangerous it would be taking people’s travel docs off them, for such minor infringements with the law.

I say it now with confidence. This will never be made law, in any way, whatsoever.

    It’s just chest-puffing

  9. I’m middle class, gf & I got a bunch of coke last weekend. Was fun. Can’t wait to have police going through my phone and taking my passport for falling foul of issues entirely created because we *arbitrarily decide what substances are legal for me to put into my own body*.

Here’s an idea: Stop criminalising human behaviour and you’re sure to find less criminals.

Shouldn’t have taken thousands of years of human development to figure out but you’re welcome.

  10. > So-called “lifestyle” users of class A drugs face losing their passports or driving licences under proposals designed to target wealthy professionals who the government will argue are driving exploitative practices with their demand.

    Where do I start

  11. Looking at the bigger picture they have/or are going to pass a bill that forces people to have photo ID to vote…less people voting the better for this band of criminals…democracy is on the line at every stage…

  12. Pure click bait of a policy; attaching class to this is straight up bullshit designed to appeal to Boris’ new red wall voters.

“Middle class” users don’t drive exploitative practices any more than working class ones do; prohibition does that.

This is yet more divide and conquer bullshit which I hope people of all backgrounds are sharp enough not to fall for.

  13. I’m a dual national. I’ll just travel to Northern Ireland by ferry using other ID, cross the border and then use my Polish passport to fly out of the Republic of Ireland in such a situation.

  14. Weren’t the Tories also floating around the idea of bringing in voter ID?

This this law, along with the one allowing them to strip you of your citizenship, would also strip you of your availability to vote as well. Seems to be that this is all a coordinated effort to crack down on who can vote and to control the electoral system.

  15. Don’t forget we legally wont be allowed to protest against these draconian laws. More of this nonsense will come from borris and co. It’ll be like the Victorian age before to long!

  16. >Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, said: “Too often the government makes grand promises, but then fails to deliver or does the opposite. Drug use is up, serious violence is up, antisocial behaviour is up. More and more offenders are getting away with their crimes as overall prosecutions have plummeted. Any action from the government must be substantial enough to undo the damage they have caused.”

I had hoped Labour would oppose these policies… not call for more prosecutions.

  17. This is just a cover up because the cabinet has been found to be full of cokeheads

This is just a political distraction

Yet more Draconian laws from our corrupt government

  18. Middle class. Just the wording is such a giveaway. Not upper class, they are good. Rule you properly. Got Brexit done. Not working class, they vote for you because you got Brexit done. But middle class. You know, those lefty wankers that call you thick and all snort coke off a Cath Kidston plastic plate in their glamping holidays. Them.

  19. This seriously flies in the face of international law.

No exaggeration when I say its proper north Korea level shit. Not many countries out there get away with seizing citizens passports. Certainly no democratic ones.

  20. No! Not my brilliant brexit blue passport!! That was sum total of brexit success…

Fucking hell, someone wake me up when they stop throwing the dead cats about.

  21. They might as well try and stop people having sex,
Our brains are hardwired to take mind altering substances from coffee to something else.

    Even animals seek out drugs.

We should be helping people who have addiction problems rather than making more draconian laws.

The war on drugs can never be won, though I guess that’s the point.

  22. Taking away passports from British drug users would seriously depopulate Ibiza and south of Spain. BoJo didn’t think of that now, did he.
