Hi, I’m a software developer with five years of professional experience in my country (Not EU member). Two of those five years were on interships. Now, I’m about to be hired from an multinational firm based in Oslo. The position is full time and on site. I attend Bsc. degree in Information Systems in my country, but not finished the course yet. Nobody talk with me about it so far, but I’m afraid it would be a problem.

I would like to know if Norway firms are able to hire international workers without a degree in their field.

As pointed by UDI:

>…special qualifications that you have obtained through long work experience, if relevant in combination with courses etc. A permit is only granted in such cases in exceptional circumstances. If you are to work in the IT industry, the requirements are somewhat less. Your qualifications must be equivalent to those of someone who has completed vocational training

Thank you in advance

  1. UDI’s website have the [relevant information](https://udi.no/en/want-to-apply/work-immigration/skilled-workers/?c=bra#link-816).

You would, I believe, fall under “special qualifications that you have obtained through long work experience, if relevant in combination with courses etc. A permit is only granted in such cases in exceptional circumstances. If you are to work in the IT industry, the requirements are somewhat less. Your qualifications must be equivalent to those of someone who has completed vocational training.”

In short; Yes, a Norwegian firm can hire you even if you don’t have a degree if your work experience gives you the same qualifications that a degree would.

Also refer to the sticky, as this is about immigration.

    Good luck!
