As someone from Northern Ireland I don’t want to be seen left in the room with England before Ireland is united
Might be less of an issue if Wales made their existence known but you seem so shy Welsh people
Nicola Sturgeon: “I’m going to keep asking the same question until I get the answer I want”.
I don’t want Scotland to leave the UK, but I can totally understand the anger and resentment they must feel towards Westminster. The fact Truss hadn’t even called Sturgeon since becoming PM sats it all. Outright contempt and arrogance by Westminster rather than attempting to build unity. I wouldn’t blame Scotland one but for voting leave.
It would be a disaster economically speaking for Scotland, I really am hoping national patriotism doesn’t override economic policy like it did with Brexit
Only if Westminster approves it though.
Of course, they could hold one anyway, but it wouldn’t have a legal basis. That might then result in a civil war.
Does anyone remember two of the selling points of staying part of the UK last time.
Being in the EU and keeping the pound.
The tories dragged us all out of the EU anyway and now seem be hell bent on destroying the pound.
Anyone would think they’re rabidly pro Scottish independence at this point and trying to emulate what Scotland could have been!
The past decade has been completely bonkers. I dread what’s next.
Should start a petition for England to leave the UK
She told us whose the expert is? You know the one that has the report on how finically beneficial is it?

She didn’t want to answer such a question when asked, so I’ll assume she’s lying.
Its their last chance. Successive terrible UK governments, brexit, etc. And its still 50/50. Labour getting in and being normal will end independence.
As a remainer, Scottish independence would make brexit look like a small economic blunder. I understand the emotion behind it. But economically its a crazy idea that will materially effect millions of of us on both sides negatively.
The irony of how similar this is to Brexit. Scotland leaving the UK does not benefit Scotland.
She still doesn’t have a plan to balance Scotland’s budget going as far to claim that the UK would pay for an independent Scotland’s pensions which obviously will not happen
Irish people will be just as interested in this referendum as the Scots.
Can we please join you?
Sincerely, everybody north of Stoke.
I wish there were more options on the table.
Rather than just yes and no.

As we are
Scrap the Scottish parliament.
There are a lot of grey areas similar to how we saw in Brexit. Where does Brexit mean a Norway style with still free moment or does it mean what we got?
I would rather have devo max with a lot more powers controlled within Scotland but that’s never an option
I seem to remember a once in a lifetime opportunity to vote for Scottish independence that happened not so long ago, sooooooo….??
Quick quick, gotta do it before Labour win anothet election and Scottish people feel their lives getting better. That would make the SNP’s case much harder to make
Just note that the majority of Scots don’t want independence so voted No last time and would do it again with this illegitimate “vote”.
The considered opinion is that the Supreme Court will throw out the SNPs case and, since both Labour and the Conservatives have ruled out any possibility of giving a second referendum the green light, its not going to happen for a long time.
It is possible that the SNP might be able to hold some sort of glorified opinion poll, but without Westminster participation it’s very unlikely to carry any weight. Pro-UK voters will just stay away.
As an Englishman who is sick of the Conservatives, I selfishly hope we get one last chance to vote them out before there is another referendum. Frankly if Truss wins a general election, then we don’t deserve to keep Scotland.
She was on radio 4 on maybe Thursday/Friday. Jesus Christ it was so hard to listen to her interview.
EVERYTHING was brought back to Scotland would be better going it alone. She sounded fanatical.
I don’t want Scotland to split the union, though, I can understand why they’d want to, given the last 12 years.
You’re our neighbours, not our masters. The vote should be allowed regardless of your view on the issue.
If that needs to come with an actual binding “there can be no vote for X years after this” so be it. It would help put the “once in a generation” lie to bed.
Keep pushing the vote until you get the results you want right?
I just wanna rejoin the EU mang :,(, the benefits were great and I had the option of moving for education
It won’t happen now.
Sturgeon’s best hope for securing IndyRef2 would have been for a hung parliament in Labour’s favour where she’s actually got a bargaining chip for entering a coalition government. But as things stand, the Tories have screwed the economy so much that the SNP are looking to become the opposition in a Labour supermajority government come the next GE.
How the hell did we go from 2019 to this?
There is no valid reason for the British Government to block it, we’ve voted for it over and over and over again. They simply don’t want to be the PM who lost Scotland, but if they keep blocking the democratic route then they leave themselves open to being remembered for far worse.
If the Scots were to vote stay, would there be another referendum in eight years time to see if they’ve changed their minds, and if they were to vote leave, would there also be another referendum?
I welcome it if at least as a wakeup call for the wider UK. If the union doesn’t have benefits and treat you as equal why would you stay?
Keep having a referendum until you get what you want screw the democratic process which said no last time
Another Scottish referendum is the only thing the Tories have got left to try and divide the opposition on.
It’ll put labour in an uncomfortable position, sure up votes for the SNP in Scotland and the press will do their work in England to make it look like whatever happened it’s Labour fault. Lots of handshakes behind the scenes in Westminster between Tory and SNP workers.
The union would be dramatically weaker without Scotland and I don’t really want them to leave, but given the way things are going I can only say folks should vote with both their hearts and their heads, and if they want to get out while they still can, then all the best to them.
Way to waste money. People are struggling with day-to-day costs of living. There are possible power cuts coming this winter… food banks are struggling, NHS is struggling, yet here she fucking goes, Nicola doing the only thing she cares – an independence referendum. Isn’t this just a waste of a fucking money ? I am all for Scotland being independent but this is not the time. I think she knows her time is coming to an end, and she is holding to the last thing she has.
I say this: Look how much Brexit already ruined the country. By going independent, Scotland will be even further isolated from everything else. EU will not take you will open arms, you will still have to meet their criteria and this will take YEARS to be finalised!
Maybe it’s just how the media spins it but does she do anything else other than bang on about independence?
Nicola Sturgeon does my head in, her whole ability to win an election is promising Scottish independence.
She will win the electoral vote so long as she keeps on the same message.
She is 100% bluffing and does not want independence, but knows she will win elections stating It.
God, I hope so. I have a lot of Scottish friends and I have to say that the Scottish have suffered a lot of crap due to their membership of the U.K. I just hope that they kick the Windsors out when they do get independence: wipe the corrupt slate clean and have a fresh start altogether!
