Well of course he does, he has no other choice. If Groen doesn’t get its nuclear exit his government will collapse. And with the increasing unpopularity and criticism on their incompetent Covid handling it’s doubtful he’ll get another shot at being PM if we have to have elections now.
He wasn’t going to send a public letter to Engie on such a critical topic for his government if he hadn’t known the answer in advance either.
I understand that there are arguments pro and contra nuclear, but I still can’t believe Groen spent so much effort and political capital on this one issue. All that political capital spent, all that time convincing their voters this was the way to go. And now they left themselves, and our flimsy governing coalition, no way out.
Sometimes I wish we did more referendums like in Switzerland. The public of course doesn’t have the info to decide on something as complex as energy policy, but it does give you a “yes” or a “no” that you can then use to settle an issue and change the dogmas of your party.
If the ship goes down the captain should go with it.
Veel blabla en niks van concrete oplossingen voor dat ‘pad voorwaards’, typisch Belgisch dus en over 3 jaar staat het nog geen stap verder
