1/ N-VA making it public how absolutely desperate they are for power. Power, to them, is a goal onto itself. They want the majority SO. DAMN. BAD. they will go back on breaking up with CD&V
2/ Also this is very timely. CD&V’s recently humiliation during the negotiations for the Flemish budget shows that the other participants on the political spectrum just straight up do **not** respect them.
While the media isn’t talking about it anymore, this will have several longterm consequences and may well lead to either CD&V breaking up, or going a lot harder in the future. Both cases are things N-VA does not want to happen, as it will respectively get them the option of known, electable people, not ending up with them, or it will get them a party they can’t control anymore.
And this move is an attempt to get in front of that.
3/ Another potential influence here, though smaller, could be Vooruit’s recent statement that if N-VA allies with VB anywhere, any deal with Vooruit is off the table and any alliance with Vooruit on the local level will be ended. God N-VA is so desperate for power.
If this actually happens, it would effectively mean CD&V stops existing. BDW has in the past pleaded for a “first past the post” system of elections, by which the single party with the biggest election score is the one who gets to decide everything. Which is a horrible system that inevitably leads to a 2 party system. It makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
This makes me all the more likely to vote Vooruit or Groen, despite plenty of issues I don’t like about them.
Basically, it’s not that 20% of people voted for you. It’s that 80% of people looked at all the options and said “not you”. That is how politics should be viewed. If 80% of the people don’t want your party, why the hell would that party get some kind of special right to be the only ones to decide things going forward. Democracy is about representation. Not about minority rule.
Voting isn’t just picking who you think is best. Your decision of who is best is based on the evaluation of all participants, and finding the others to just not be good enough for you. It’s time people remembered that.
>Volgens haar zijn CD&V en N-VA natuurlijke bondgenoten, “al kunnen ze niet naast elkaar blijven bestaan”. “Ik denk dat Vlaanderen behoefte heeft aan een brede Vlaamse volkspartij op de schouders van N-VA, waar de christendemocratie zeker een plaats in moet hebben”
Let’s merge so you can become the de jure bottom bitch of our party yeah Els great idea lmao, I’m sure all the CD&V politicians are dying to see that happen.
> de essentie van N-VA is ook gemeenschapsdenken
That these muppets might actually believe that, despite actively hating on huge chunks of our society, and not giving a damn about public health whn push comes to shove (eg covid, PFOS), is pretty incredible
A two party system is never going to happen. People would find it undemocratic and hate it. England and the US aren´t exactly promoting it either right now.
I don´t understand why Van Doesburg is coming with this idea. Is Nva trying to promote her? It´s never going to work. People like her that probably are clever but clearly lack a link to the people will never be popular. Nva tried it before and it always failed. I remember that Sander Loones was presented as a possible successor of De Wever. ´Sander who?´ you might ask. Yeah, that didn´t work out. I never understood how they even considered it.

So, what we have here is:

EDIT: For those who want to know why “first past the post” is a bad system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo
