Why not just let them face justice in Qatar if they fuck around?
I guess it’s to avoid souring relations, but I’m just really not comfortable with this governments boner for taking passports away.
Is there a good reason they couldn’t just ask the Qatari government not to let them in?
Good.
They’d only get drunk, kick off after a 1-1 draw, and we’d have to put up with mum and dad on TV begging for their immediate release and saying he is such a good child.
If they have a ban domestically, do you think they’ll somehow put their big boy shorts on half way across the world and, you know, behave like a normal human being?
My arse…
As much as I despise football hooligans, I feel this is a violation of their civil liberties, being forced to hand your passport over. Though it’s ironic that the same measure is used in Qatar and other Gulf countries to prevent people from _leaving_. Maybe that’s where the UK government got the idea from.
This is the way football banning orders have worked for years.
“Criminal behaviour will not be tolerated at the World Cup”
How many workers have been killed building the stadiums due to neglect that would be completely illegal in the UK?
This isn’t anything new. Ever since these bans were brought in to combat football hooliganism this has always been a stipulation of the conditions of the ban.
These firms purposely go to matches to beat up people. They don’t even care if you are on the same side.
Can’t believe anyone would actually want to go to that dump of a country tbh.
On one hand, I’m largely against over reaching legislation like this, that stops people doing lots of things rather than the very specific thing they’re being penalised for.
On the other hand, you can’t police them overseas, and I think the biggest problem for the UK would be the diplomatic nightmare of 50 football fans arrested in a state like Qatar.
