  1. Aside from this matter there’s always been something disconcerting about Craughwell. Can’t exactly put my finger on it but I feel like he’s a guy you can’t trust.

  2. tbf some of the individual stories of shitty working conditions and treatment have been terrible but the data used to give the figure of ‘thousands dead’ is complete BS

  3. Why did Qatar even pay for this guy anyways? He’s a senator, who is independent…local councillors has more power and influence.

    Anyways, Abolish the Seanad.

  4. Love the world cup but I can’t sanction the corruption of it being held in Qatar and will be making a point not to watch it. Drop in the pond but I feel strongly about it.

  5. I mean our government encourages trading and hasn’t sanctioned Saudi, UAE over a near genocidal war in Yemen. Senator is just keeping up trade relations.

  6. Gerry Craughwell had always been a vocal supporter of the Defence Forces but this tarnishes everything he has said. Not something I would support him doing in a way.

  7. All you need to do is read that first opening paragraph to see where this “opinion” came from.

    It’s so blatantly obvious.

  8. Half way down the first column, when asked about workers deaths and injuries.. Jesus Christ

Basically, ” look it’s a big number but don’t print it just to sell newspapers”

  9. “Mr Craughwell confirmed that his trip to the country was paid for by Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee…

…’What involvement the Qatari Government have with (the National Human Rights Committee) I’m not 100% sure,’ Mr Craughwell said.

Oh dear. The ‘Bertie Ahern Gambit’…

“I’m not corrupt, I’m just inept”
