I think assagne, with his connections to Putin’s entourage, is a different story. I don’t think we will ever know what really went on with WikiLeaks but in his particular case it’s just too big to ignore.

This is a reminder that what Julian Assange was accused of was sexual offences against two women including rape and molestation and that he hid in embassies until the statute of limitations ran out and he could no longer be arrested.

I’ve never made my mind up on this. He definitely shouldn’t be sent to the US for releasing documents which stopped a police state. But equally he probably should have been in Sweden to face chargers.
Why would anyone support Assange? Even if you somehow support the viewpoint that the rape allegations were totally meritless from the start, this is a guy who has deliberately messed with democracy by selectively leaking things from only one side, deliberately sitting on anything he had from the other side, and actively aided that side in the election. That’s also not even getting into the fact he was almost always a Russian asset from the get go.

The US is extremely concerned about Navalny, and Russia is extremely concerned about Assange.
If Assange was so committed to transparency and holding governments accountable, why not more of a focus on Russia?
Wikileaks dumped a lot of secret information, and achieved very little except the deaths of some human intelligence sources.

I think the most important thing to learn from this is to never become a martyr. It’s not worth it to sacrifice your life for these people.

And what will you receive for all your trouble? Torture, imprisonment, exile…
Never sacrifice yourself for the good of society. Do whatever you can do to live a good life yourself. You only have one life. Don’t throw that away for the benefit of the unwashed masses. They will not be grateful.
