‘Only matter of time until someone is killed’ – says referee who was assaulted

  1. Referees should band together and start refusing to referee games for certain teams if they’re particularly difficult.

The lack of respect for the referee is the cultural norm in football and needs to be stamped out. The FA needs to instruct referees to be much more strict on dissent and make a clear statement about yellow cards being given for **all** acts of dissent and actually enforce it at all levels.

You’d get some low player count and possibly abandoned games early on but teams and players would soon adapt.

  2. Emotional incontinence and violence are a deeply ingrained part of the culture of the sport. It stifles boys, coddles adolescent tantrums, feeds the impotent rage of the middle aged and is a breeding ground for sexism, misogyny, homophobia and racism.

  3. Fans need lifetime bans from all stadiums for behaviour like this. It won’t change their behaviour but it at least keeps them away from referees. Some fans need to find something else to invest their emotions into other than football, it is a great hobby but it is still just a game at the end of the day and the next match rolls around very quickly. If they cannot control themselves then they should not be allowed to attend any matches ever.

  4. Footballers have such poor discipline when it comes to this shit and the ruling bodies as a whole let them get away with it. Easy way to clamp down on it anyone but the captain talks to the ref they get a yellow.
