Yeah it wouldn’t come as a suprise if Putins puppet would do what’s expected of him
Europe will have to throw Orban a bone – he’s spineless as long as he can keep the power and dough rolls in…
>One of the most prestigious Swedish newspapers, the Dagens Nyheter, wrote that Hungary might slow down the accession process based on what Márton Tompos, a politician of opposition Momentum told them. Tompos believes that Orbán uses the Finnish and Swedish NATO accession to blackmail Brussels. Orbán wants access to the EU funds denied because of the corruption in Hungary. He does not think the government will veto it, but Orbán will use it to reach their own goals, Tompos said.
Who would have expected that, huh?
Nice job [funding](http://cdn.statcdn.com/Infographic/images/normal/18794.jpeg) and therefore actively promoting authoritarianism in your midst, EU. When are you going to do something about it? Fifteen years from now? When it’s *really* too late?
I’ve seen a shitload of naive Redditors clapping on this sub, when the EU decided to *suspend* Hungary’s funds.
But it’s exactly what it is. A *suspension*. Not an actual *cut*. Orbán will get his billions, probably even more than previously anticipated.
As long as Orbán has his veto vote, not just in NATO, but even more so in the EU, he has the power to blackmail those organizations. And he will keep doing that, because he’s an autocrat. You can’t change autocrats. Brussels doesn’t seem to understand that. In NATO, the US can put pressure on Hungary. In the EU, we don’t have countries willing to do that.
Or the EU and its individual Member States start thinking outside of the box, outside of the Treaties, and start forcing out Hungary, by any means necessary. The EU is *already* acting against its own Treaties, by allowing authoritarianism. So why stick with the Treaties when dealing with Hungary?
I don’t think that Hungary would dare to do auch thing, they will become automatically the pariah of western world, this is too much even for Orban
They won’t. They might delay it by causing internal drama, but I don’t think they will deny it.
Sure, Orban will do anything for (EU/Russian) money.

The EU will never get rid of the veto vote. So we either accept that authoritarianism (and perhaps even worse in the future) is part of our Union, or we start over again with a new and improved EU, without a veto vote, and with an option to kick out [undemocratic](https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20220909IPR40137/meps-hungary-can-no-longer-be-considered-a-full-democracy) countries.
