Let’s be clear, this is a way for the Tories to funnel more tax payer money to the rich. It’s the working public that need childcare and make use of the approved providers, not the wealthiest who can afford to stay at home. Sending cash direct to parents just means people who don’t need it will get free money from the tax payer for nothing. It makes zero sense.
Well she can’t sacrifice scrawny kids to Satan can she.
Well any help is at all is welcome, were paying over £1000 a month just on childcare.
Daycare in the UK is extortionate, I feel a social programme for this would enable more flexibility to two working parents.
Sending the kids to the grandparents and just paying the grandparents is superficial attractive because it’s cheaper, but then they miss out on a lot of the experience of being around big groups of other kids which prepares them for school.
There’s a next chapter to this, presumably something along the lines of “despicable povvo parents spending childcare money on fags and booze”. This sort of aid hasn’t been given as cash for many decades because it’s supposed to be protected for the children. When it isn’t it;s going to play right into their hands to defund it.
So what happens when nursery fees inevitably rise above the amount of this annual payment? Poorer kids get fewer hours, if they can afford to attend at all. Classic Tory policy, good work Liz
Reddit trying their hardest to spin this as bad lol
Regardless, it is going to afford all parents more flexibility.
She’s shit, we get it.. but you don’t have to try as hard as possible to spin a positive into a negative
I don’t get it, this seems to be a pretty good policy all things considered.
By the way the real plan is to eventually stop this concept of state-funding childcare completely. Firstly by means-testing this payment and then by just ending it.
They can’t just end the situation we have now suddenly.
This is the ideology Liz Truss is all about, zero state. However the UK economy cannot support it, something these ideologues never seem to grasp.
Always confuses me why the Gov don’t help people raise what are essentially the future of the country
Pro’s – they could lower the age required to receive childcare so maybe it could be available from when mother’s return from maternity leave.
Con’s – if nurseries don’t have to provide hours for free and there is no cap on the hourly cost then they could spiral even more.
– some households may not use this money to pay for proper childcare and it could lead to a bigger educational divide or children in less safe settings.
As long as this can be paid for I’m all for it. There is a fertility rate crisis in Britain that is only now being acknowledged. We shouldn’t have to import foreign workers. Families need to be able to afford to have 2 or 3 children. Truss has made mistakes but if she supports the family she has my support. To be clear I don’t need this personally. My children are older. This is for the country.
