“We are UK citizens, why are we now living in what feels like a developing country?” Striking piece getting people in Britain on low incomes to react to some of the stuff that’s come out of government recently – just feels completely detached from these people’s reality.
What’s particularly interesting is the very under-covered part of the mini-budget that is upping benefit sanctions on people *already working* who don’t spend 6 hours longer in the week looking for work (as the piece reports, this is impossible for people with childcare needs).
Lovely we all have to suffer so the tories can pretend trickle down economics work.
It’s funny how Truss is all about supply-side support right up until it comes to the supply of labour.
Funny the amount of people who hated Austerity the first time and still voted tory. And here we are yet again. Austerity round 2.
So Austerity 1.0 was blamed on the EU, I wonder who Austerity 2.0 is going to be blamed on?
Remember: It’s always the Tories.
Already over 300k dead due to this absolute failure of a policy.
I wonder how many new billionaires will get made this time around.
Not being funny or anything but as far as I can see Austerity v1.0 is still loading and we are still not seeing the full impact yet…
Fear not fellow Britons you won’t have to stare at the table and the empty plates because all the lights will be off.

Just curious about the ins and outs of this, these days
I did the dole back in the early 00s. Think Gordon Brown as PM era. ‘Signing on’ meant going through a list of activities you had promised to do as part of the ‘job seekers agreement’ or whatever.
So it’d be ‘applied for job x’, logged into the job centre website and performed searches based on jobs a, b, and c. Checked the jobs section of the local paper etc.
I was only involved for about six weeks, and usually did the stuff involved. But it always seemed very easy to just write down anything you want, wasn’t exactly difficult to fake.
How does it work these days? How can they check up, accurately, on six hours of job hunting?
Trickle down economics is a joke that 99% don’t get.
Turns out the only thing that’s trickling down is the warm pish from above and that’s when they are feeling generous.
If only big union / labour were in charge….we could all go on strike….
Austerity 2: (No) Electric Boogaloo. Because it worked so well the first time
“The demands of the Labour Movement are hopelessly and dangerously ideological, *of course*, but this adherence to austerity economics is just common sense and in no way an ideological project of class warfare. It’ll work this time, plebs, honest. Honest!”
We’ve had to endure stuff we don’t, as a majority want, for fucking ages, and call it democracy.
I fucking hate Tories and how they have royally fucked the country with their greed and lack of giving a shit about anyone in actual need. Fuck the lot of them.
And everyone still beleaves in capitalism… i just… surprised? no, shocked.
So if all these billionaires are going to make even more money off of this somehow, how can I/we make money off of it? Where do I need to point my dwindling savings?

So why did he not implement a windfall tax on energy producer’s profits? Why is he instead only borrowing money to offest the increase in consumer energy prices? How was he intending to recoup losses incurred through the abolishment of the 45% tax band? Why did he cut the increase on NI payments?
Absolute scumbags.

Well, I guess more disabled and poor people are going to die again. IDS killed thousands of people with benefit cuts, looks like it’s time for round two of Tories committing genocide on the weakest and most vulnerable in society.
It takes a special skill to be in power for 12 years and blame others for the mess that exists today. Trussia indeed.
remember if you voted tory you personally are to blame for this.
I guess it’s good we recovered from austerity 1.0 and enjoyed all the benefits of that sacrifice first
We never recovered from the first austerity. I don’t know how this one will go down.
Do we riot yet?
Why the fuck are we busting our asses working, to be unable to afford things so rich cunts can have a tax break?
Make it make sense!
I’m getting extremely bored of these once in a generation crises happening every five years.
This is exactly what happens when a political party is in power that has nothing but hatred and contempt for those they deem unworthy. And that’s a big chunk of the UK’s population.
That’s it. I’m done. I’ve offically given up on the UK. These motherfuckers do not want to get better. I need to leave ASAP.
I remember when Theresa May called the end of austerity when PM.
They just saw how American cities are great with hundreds of thousands homeless people everywhere. Such a big task!
Pay the bottom earners a big pay rise …Then more spending on food, clothes, heat ,cooking and then maybe a holiday ! (Horror of horrors I know!) Nights out, cinema visits days out with kids …this is trickle up economics the only way money transfer happens . The rich still profiteer but the lower down earners get to live not exist.
