They should be really cold. Put them in the freezer for a good 12 hours or so before trying. Snaps is usually enjoyed with a salty meal, often fish, with a pilsner on the side. You can sing a snapsvisa before taking a sip also. I recommend a snapsvisa called “Hell and Gore”. It is a english bastardisation of a classic Swedish snapsvisa called “Helan går”.
Step 1. Peel potato
Step 2. Boil potato, preferably with dill
Step 3. Serve boiled potato with some pickled herring
Midsommar, at Swedish crayfish party or Christmas dinner .
And also sing a snaps visa(skärgårdsSNAPSar). One popular is “Helan går”. [here Will Ferrell](https://youtu.be/wjcGAKU23Qc) signs one version of it.
Throw them away they’re from Denmark
I think there are a small folder inside with suggestions on how to enjoy each one. At least it used to be.
Drink them as shots, preferably cold. You must sing a jolly song before taking the “schnapps”, preferably the schnappvisa “Helan går”.
Preferably all at the same time, as is tradition
It’s snaps, not “schnapps”. No ch sound. More like “snups”.
Drink them cold, drink them quick, drink a few.
As mentioned, store them in the freezer. Then you preferably serve them in small shot glasses together with a meal starter. Don’t forget you need to sing a raunchy drinking song way too loud and offkey as if you were already drunk as a skunk.
But watch out, they will really “tickle” your tastebuds, in both a good and a bad way 😀
Personally there are some of those I cannot stand at all but please do enjoy 🙂
Gotta drink it all in one go.
If you dont take the helan, you dont get the halvan
Drink them like shots when you eat pickled herring, either on a sandwich or with boiled potatoes (with sour cream, red onions and chives), maybe with some boiled eggs on the side. Also a nice lager beer (you don’t want to only drink strong alcohol to a meal). You could also drink them when eating Danish *smørrebrød* (sandwiches from heaven).
Refrigeration is a matter of taste. I usually drink snaps at room temperature.
Don’t bother with the “snapsvisor”, that’s just silly stuff that wastes time you could use for drinking and eating.
A lot of people on here are telling you to drink them cold. Do not!
They are spiced spirits. Serving them cold greatly reduces the flavor of the spices. They should be served just under room temperature.
Different kinds are good with different foods. I can’t really find a good english source for you but if you have access to 1. a swedish library and 2. a swedish/english translator I recommend “Steffos spritbibel” by Steffo Törnquist, pg. 290-331.
There is some nice ones in there, try them around 10-15 degrees, dont kill the flavour with cold.
Typically as shots, during a meal consisting of herring and potatoes, after singing a jaunty folk melody with alcohol-themed lyrics.
Worth knowing is that these are essentially vodka with some spices added.
Slowly, in small sips, with food, while theyre ice cold. And with friends. And with even more stupid improvised songs that you all try to sing while being increasingly inebriated.
Do NOT consume like whiskey or other spirits.
Alone.
Stöldgods. Dansken tar vårt brännvin och säljer till jänkarna.
Lots of do’s and dont. Just drink it cold or room temperature. If you’d like combine it with some food (check out swedish midsummer food).
Drink all of them in one sitting together with a distant relative that gets progressively more racist by the bottle!
Step 1 is to unscrew the cap first. Many tries to skip this very important step. Then you drink…
The shell can be a bit crunchy, so just twist off the top and just drink the contents.

Shot them. Don’t pour them into big glasses.
