Its nearly happened a few times at the care home my M-I-L works at. Brexit has drastically cut the talent pool and covid can take care of the rest in one weekend.
They have had a couple of outbreaks and have been left with technically not enough staff to operate thanks to people isolating but have just scraped through by the skin of their teeth with last minute agency workers.
I cant imagine they are on their own on that front.
“Just get the jab”
” Just look after your own parents”
This is disgusting. The people that live there aren’t just numbers on a piece of paper, that’s their home. The people they live with are their friends. Fuck me, this government – and Kent County Council – are absolutely appalling.
Serious question, not trying to be a judgmental prick. What’s the logistics behind putting your kid into a care home? Is this for people who have needs that can only be met by a qualified nurse?
In some instances is this a soft form of putting them up for adoption?
must be very distressing for the family, is there not a higher authority that can intervene. I know its a Kent County Council issue but there must be specific circumstances. Its hugely disruptive.
Also the care homes could increase the wages, that could help but it be interesting to see how tight the profit lines really are
the managerial classes will happily see the vulnerable die rather than pay carers an appropriate wage
More evidence of government not giving a shit about people
Honestly terrible. Especially with adults with autism find it difficult to cope with change and then they are evicted. Poor man has no where else to go. I hope the families are receiving some help financially and mentally.
I wonder why it got so bad? Was it staff shortages. I mean if they can’t recruit the staff the remaining staff have burnt out and plus need to have appropriate staffing levels for the amount of people in the place. If not I guess they will close. Always ran to minimum staff
It seems to me that a duty of care can’t just be cancelled. I think 28 days to say “We’re bankrupt sorry find something else” is at the very limit of what is acceptable – and would only be acceptable if the directors of the company were in fact bankrupt. But to just say “We failed to hire people, fuck you” is unacceptable. It’s just negligence.
Panarama did a good job last night explaining where the money goes when care fees are paid and why this industry is fucked.
