The issue isn’t taking these resources as the switch to cleaner energy will take the world years and cost vast amounts.

This is about energy security, so long as we are going to keep on consuming fossil fuels – I’d much rather they came from domestic production than imported for dubious nations and regimes.
We don’t have to look any further than the Ukraine conflict or even OPEC’s response to it to see we can’t rely on foreign powers for our energy needs.
When it comes to the environment is that we have a year on year reduction of net emissions with the aim of hitting 0 by 2050.

As much as we do for the environment in this country, it’s a mere drop in the ocean. Look at countries such as China, America, India, they all have awful carbon footprints.
We, as a country are potentially going to use coal power stations to help us heat/power our homes this Winter. It may be inevitable, but we must ask ourselves: Who/what has caused this?

As controversial as this may be, I feel the planet has reached the point of ne return with climate change, all we can do now is slow down the effects, I don’t feel it’ll ever be reversed.

No the UK hadn’t defined climate warnings, LIZ TRUSS has denied climate warnings. The majority of the population and some of those within parliament are actively pushing for a switch to renewable energies. The government is the problem.
Energy security is one of our most pressing and serious issue right now.
We need viable energy sources NOW – this will give nothing in the short term but will give energy security in the medium term.
The U.K. is one of the front runners in terms of renewable energy …..but right now it’s not enough and that Russia has now gone rogue then difficult choices need to be made now.
You can be sure that spending on renewables is going to skyrocket also.
These are all long term projects and infrastructure takes years to build.
Or….. live in Reddit world and let the lights and power go off and let people freeze.
It is almost like we are in an energy crisis where thousands of old people might freeze over the winter.
