With Elon Musk suggesting to give Putin what he wants to stop the war, let’s remember how well that worked for the Allies after trying to appease Hitler with Sudetenland

  2. I think the context should be clear enough, but just to be sure – the image above portrays ex-UK prime minister Chamberlain, and his proclamation of “Peace of our lifetime”

    You can see him waving the signed peace pact with Germany, after trying to appease Hitler with Sudetenland (Munich Agreement). He believed that this will stop further German aggression in Europe, but that didn’t quite work out..

    Now Elon Musk suggests that giving Putin Crimea, referendum and Ukraine out of NATO will stop the Russian aggression.. let’s not repeat the history.

    In a strange awy he was right though. There has been an unprecedented peace in our times. The problem was it took around 40 million deaths to get there.

  8. (unpopular opinion, probably?) It worked fairly well for three years and most world powers were quite OK with Hitler and Stalin doing their things in Europe, until those pesky Japs attacked Pearl Harbor.

    Urovnání československého problému, kterého se nyní podařilo dosáhnout, je podle mého názoru pouze předehrou k většímu urovnání, v němž může celá Evropa nalézt mír. Dnes ráno jsem měl další rozhovor s německým kancléřem, panem Hitlerem, a zde je papír, který nese jeho jméno i moje. Někteří z vás už možná slyšeli, co obsahuje, ale já bych vám to rád přečetl:

    My, německý kancléř a britský premiér, jsme dnes měli další setkání a shodneme se na tom, že otázka anglo-německých vztahů je pro naše dvě země a Evropu na prvním místě.

    Dohodu podepsanou včera večer a anglo-německou námořní dohodu považujeme za symbol touhy našich dvou národů už nikdy spolu neválčit.

    Jsme rozhodnuti, že metoda konzultací bude metodou přijatou k řešení jakýchkoli dalších otázek, které se mohou týkat našich dvou zemí, a jsme odhodláni pokračovat ve svém úsilí o odstranění možných zdrojů rozdílů, a tím přispět k zajištění míru v Evropě.

  12. The reason why I get so emotional about the Ukrainian defense is because they’re doing what we have failed to even attempt ever since the founding of the first republic. First with the Nazis and then in ’68. Any of those “neutral” people should take good look at what happens when the international community decides to give authoritarians what they want.

  13. nuclear weapons didnt even exist back then this is a stupid comparison. russia about to quadruple their army size. If ukraine wants to prevent more death and suffering it needs to sit at the negotiation table, cause realistically the russians are not gonna leave any time soon and it will get very ugly if russia takes the gloves off in the winter.
