They want people to misunderstand that soft cap of theirs and accidentally spend over it, I think that’s pretty clear.
Not a nanny state? De-criminalise drugs then, and start taking all that lovely tax revenue from them.
Course not, that would reduce energy orgs profits.
Why would they say that?
Silly.
If I was a tory I’d be out there asking for an election or at the every least a new leader. This cabinet is a fucking joke and since Cameron we’ve had worse and worse leaders.
I have generally considered myself to be Conservative in the past….but I can’t take their stupidity anymore. We’re in a global energy crisis and they don’t want to spend £15m on a public information campaign but are happy to spend 50b on price caps. What’s next – no more public health warnings?
Education is not being a nanny state.
They certainly aren’t; nannies look after the most vulnerable in society.
Equivalent to refusing to ration food during the world wars.
Insanity.
During the world war there were campaigns to use less energy and gas to support the troops. Bloody nanny state.
But will nevertheless proceed to implement rolling blackouts, to ensure that people use less energy. #torylogic
So why are you the climate minister then you fucking genocidal cunt bag
Asking people to use less energy = nanny state
State-mandated three hour blackouts in winter because of energy supply issues = no nanny state
…ok
But we will try and make cannabis more illegal. We will legislate what you can do on the Internet.
The tories idea of a nanny state is simply divided between what they ideologically prefer or don’t. It is nothing more than an advertising slogan.
Giving people advice on how to save money and be more energy efficient is not a nanny state. If anything it allows people to have more choice and freedom to do things how they want to best suit their circumstances.
It’s the exact opposite of a nanny state.
This current iteration of government haven’t actually managed to do anything right at all. At the very least Johnson’s government managed to roll out the furlough scheme off their own back even if they fucked up almost everything else but this lot are actually hopeless.
They don’t even seem to understand their own ideology.
You don’t need to tell people to use less energy when it’s roughly a million pounds per unit you utter cretin.
What she isn’t saying is that she doesn’t need to. The massive price hikes are their solution to the shortage, while making a tidy sum in the process.
Many people won’t have a choice but to cut down and the reasonable bet is that’s more than a enough of a reduction to make it through.
Not a nanny state but virtually everything but property is regulated 🤣
What the hell does that even mean? These people are insane.
Which lobby group sat behind the Truss campaign vetoed this one? Did she get money from the energy companies? She’s not applying a windfall tax and now she’s stymied an attempt to promote a cut in usage? Someone’s on the payroll.
Mad Liz missing the point as always. It is not about telling people to use less energy it should be about giving advice about how they may be able to save energy and reduce their bills + Consumption.
She is just thinking about the narrative it portrays. She should, as all politicians, spend less time worrying about themselves and more about the country and it’s people.
Having looked at the BBC comments I cannot help but wonder how the absolute fuck some of these people function.
“I don’t need the government to tell me what to do”. Even if true, some other cunts DO need to be pointed in the right direction, and if they’re not they’ll use all the pissing power and fuck things over for us all.
The Tories won’t publish energy-saving advice because they aren’t running a nanny state. You can see the sneer of contempt at the very idea. They will, however, spend 148 billion to cap energy prices. Makes perfect sense.
Not a nanny state? they just made peaceful protest an imprisonable offense!
Boris Johnson was bad. Liz Truss is worse. Both are the products of a ‘failing upwards’ system for the privileged.
Imagine a world in which Boris Johnson had not been fired from his first job for making a story up.
That’s not ‘nanny state’, you absolute melon. That’s ‘managing an essential resource which might face shortages’. Prudence and living within our means is what conservatives are supposed to believe in, but then that lot haven’t been conservative for a long time.
We will pay half your bills for you but feel free to run them up as much as you want.
You can tell most this lot are trust fund kiddies.
