Developer warns house price drop would make new-builds unviable

  1. Oh look, another industry looking for a government dig out because their profits are being threatened after years of ripping us off

  2. This is what the Croí Conaithe scheme is designed to helped, making funding available for developments which are no longer viable on their own due to increasing materials costs.

  3. And this is why the government must invest in the construction industry as well and don’t put the whole future of the nation in a few private company’s hands.

  4. It’s just bizarre that they will look for any reason to build a quango and tax us for it but setting up Irish Housing and charging people rent is a no go.

Too many donations come from that direction.

  5. Damn developer can’t afford to upgrade his fleet of cars , helicopters and private jets. Let’s give them more public lands and grant’s.

  6. Fuck the developers! They have made so much profit for the last decade in this country, building poor quality block/houses and having an easy sell with the vulture fund buying in bulk! It’s time they build proper home without trying to get 1000% profit on it

  7. It’s quite clear that nobody reads the fucking articles before commenting on this sub.

For those that can’t be arsed: 40% of new builds with planning permission are apartments. Apartments cost more to build than houses in Ireland, they are therefore more expensive to buy than houses. The developer reckons nobody will want them because they’re going to become too expensive relative to the market, and if nobody buys them then they’re not worth building. The developer isn’t cribbing about less profit, he’s cribbing about losing money by building something nobody will buy, and last time I checked property developers weren’t running charities.

EDIT: This is not my opinion. This is what the article says. **For fuck sake**

  8. Absolute bollox. They just won’t be printing the money like they have been the last few years.
Why should developers have such huge profit margins? They can fuck off.
There should be a department of construction in the government and get shit done on a large scale

  9. Imagine we had an entitiy that has vasts amounts of land it owns, has access to large amounts of cheap capital and has no incentive whatsover to make a profit… maybe it could build houses at cost and remove this profit motive.

I seem to remember this was done many decades ago. I think it was called state built housing or something /s
