They’re already ridiculously priced whenever you need one.
This is going to kill uber, its already cheaper to use a taxi
I still haven’t gotten round to ordering an Uber. Its looking like I missed their heyday now.
If I can ever get the app to work though I will not miss out on Uber Eats intro offer!

This is a good thing, really – there’s so much of this weirdness in these kinds of industries.
I have to use the Uber App, Uber set the prices, Uber choose my car and driver – yet apparently my contract is directly with them. Utter bollocks.
Private Hire firms will be pissed, but it’s the same there. I call a firm, and a taxi appears – they choose who, they set the price etc. They spend their life hiding behind “self employment” and none of them have been big enough to have test cases brought against them
> James Farrar, general secretary of the App Drivers & Couriers Union (ADCU), said: “Rather than fix its broken business model, Uber was determined to double down on misclassification at the cost of worker rights, passenger safety and the avoidance of VAT.
> “Our victory will now make misclassification unlawful, transform the London minicab industry for the better and finally eradicate sector wide worker rights abuses.”
Absolutely spot on.
Now we need to crack down on insurance and treatment of gig deliveries
This follows the judgment in [*R (United Trade Action Group Ltd) v Transport for London (Rev 1)*](https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2021/3290.html) [2021] EWHC 3290 (Admin), which effectively held that operators like Uber must have a contract with the customer in order to operate lawfully in London.
Seems sensible. If chocolate biscuits have VAT on them because they’re a luxury then a taxi ride absolutely should.
Absolutely no taxis in Leeds at all. Uber seems to have a monopoly as Amber bought out loads of taxi firms here. So they can’t keep up with the demand, and every fare is double what it used to be. So you use Uber. But there aren’t any Ubers and it’s constantly on a surge price. It costs usually £10 to go 7 miles or something. It’s now showing £26-£28. Ridiculous.
