The article doesn’t say that they’ve been punished, only that the council “stepped in to protect the tenants’ legal rights”. Why so vague? They should absolutely be allowed to stay, but if that’s all that happened then that’s not good enough. If landlords face no repercussions for exploiting their tenants they’ll just keep on doing it
Unlawful eviction is a criminal offence. Anything short of taking a prosecution against the landlord is letting them off lightly.
