Its clear we need to rethink energy usage in the UK.
I honestly think if we made the effort to reduce energy usage across all sectors we might manage.
What possible steps do you think would be best to prevent blackouts in the short term?
The subtext here may not be immediately obvious to people outwith Scotland.
It’s that blackouts are going to be a *really fucking hard sell* in Scotland given that Scotland is a net energy exporter.
Scotland generates enough electricity to cover its own annual consumption and over and above that an extra 50% that goes to England – 16 TWh / year. (And Wales does much the same). A shitload of it is renewable too.
Sitting in the cold and dark over winter (and it gets pretty damn cold and dark in Scotland) for the privilege of being part of the Union possibly ain’t the selling point that Truss and company appear to believe it is. A peculiar decision with what looks another independence vote potentially coming up.
Maybe give the climate bullshit a rest for a year and actually provide supply of energy during a crisis?
I think a lot of people will just ask why someone else cannot do it instead. It’s like people who water their gardens during a hosepipe ban: they expect others to follow the rules but are not doing so themselves because they think they have a good reason not to.
The biggest issue is all the unnecessary lights on all night, businesses should be heavily fined for keeping lights on unnecessarily at night. It would save a fair bit of energy if the country was not lit up enough to be seen from space every night.
I do think she will d a way better job than Liz Truss………
