The higher the prices the higher the commission. Vested interest groups shouldn’t be on prime time etc as if they are independent brokers.

  1. But they’re not independent brokers and they never claimed to have been, they’re working in the interest of the vendors

  2. Do they realize if you sell your home for an extortionate price you will still have to buy another home….. For an extortionate price. I’m currently buying a home and am getting sexually assaulted by the agency. If I’m ten years I’m selling I will never ever use them.

  3. FYI, having been through the previous property bubble and crash, all indications are that estate agents aren’t that bothered by price movements, they live off transaction volumes. I think there’s research on this showing that estate agents get higher prices for their own houses than those they sell for others, showing that when selling other folks’ houses they just try to get the deal done rather than ekeing out the highest possible price, as the extra % they get isn’t really worth the effort. You can extrapolate that to average houses in the market selling for say 400k versus 500k. They make a lot more from selling two 400k houses than they do for selling one 500k house.

TLDR, Volumes rather than prices are what they thrive on.
