In other news today British train systems remain shit and need starting again from scratch.

Extending the contract at all seems ludicrous.
I was a prolific user of the London > Manchester / Liverpool services when they were virgin trains, who while not perfect were light years ahead of these clowns.
I’ve taken Avanti 5/6 times this year, and every trip there were masses of people stood up for the whole journey, given the outrageous fares this is completely unacceptable
Trying to book a ticket in advance is an absolute shitshow at the moment. Also, why the fuck is an anytime return from Manchester to London for 2 people (with a two together railcard, mind) SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT POUNDS?
I think it has become increasingly clear that they aren’t interested in running the service. I’m not sure what giving them a 6 month extension, then probably 6 months notice of termination, gets us?
But just imagine how inefficient it would be if it hadn’t been privatised. /s
I’m so lucky I have the option to take Chiltern from Brum to London. Yes it’s longer, but it’s cheaper, more reliable, and the trains don’t stink of shit.
