There’s rumours of fatalities. Hopefully not true.
From the area but live away. I’m hearing that at least one dead and multiple people trapped and up to 30 injured.
This is a *very* popular filing station that basically acts as the local shop for the entire town of Creeslough and many people travelling into the area from Letterkenny or the north on their way into Dunfanaghy or Marble Hill for the weekend. At 4 o’clock at a Friday it’d be rammed.
I know 2 people who work there but have heard nothing yet of who was actually injured as news is still just coming out. I really hope that there are no more deaths or serious injuries but from the looks of the pictures going out that’d be a miracle. Literal walls have been blown off the front of the place.
Apparently people are speculating that the explosion originated in the apartment above the shop which could be true based on the pictures but from memory they also keep gas canisters out front so I don’t think anyone is sure yet.
Anyone not seriously hurt or killed in that explosion would br a miracle.
My hometown. Best friend not answering his phone. Surreal.
Edit 1: Have since heard my friend was in next town and is safe. Family ok. Knew staff in there. Crazy to wake up to phone call at 4am in NZ hearing this. Gorgeous small town where everyone knows each other. Popular petrol station.
Edit 2: I’m hearing 4 confirmed dead – hospital told local newspaper. Can’t confirm accuracy of report though. Don’t see it on RTE yet. Just going off what someone told me.
Place looks in bits. Hopefully no serious injuries.
Looks like a gas explosion.
No fire or smoke in the pics which is strange and looks to have orginated in the second floor. Third floor looks like it collapsed in on itself.
Jesus. What a terrible disaster. The photos show a scene of utter carnage.
Most likely a gas leak. Hope for the best outcome here.
Seeing photos looks like people living directly above it, imagine just watching telly and then boom youre gone. Fuck. RIP to all those who passed
Letterkenny Hospital in emergency protocol tonight. NowDoc have put on extra staff for the night to help out. It was chaos in Letterkenny at the time with Friday gridlock and all the extra services trying to get through traffic to Creeslough.
This is my home town. My sister and a close friend are missing. This is a very small community where everyone knows everyone and there won’t be a family not affected by this.
Devastating. It feels a bit redundant to say I hope everyone is OK (obviously people aren’t) but my thoughts are with everyone caught up in this 💔
Tá sin uafásach. in ainm Dé
looking at the place on Google maps from before it shows how much damage is done to it now. it will be a miracle if anyone in the higher apartments escaped serious injury or worse.
Hoping the best for everyone from the area.
My bestie’s grandson was just released from the hospital, covered in cuts and bruises but ok. Her other grandkid lived in one of the apartments above the shop; thank goodness they weren’t home when it happened. This place is crazy busy at the time of the explosion and we’re all dreading the outcome.
It’s a miracle the explosion didn’t trigger a secondary with the fuel. Really hoping people are found alive. That is a frightening scenario.
Hoping the best for all waiting to hear. Was in the shop yesterday afternoon. So awful.
I hope to god they get everyone out safely.
I just moved away from Donegal but I used to stop here at least twice a week to get petrol and snacks with my toddler. My heart breaks for those involved, I was shocked when I heard.
It must be bad. NI fire and ambulance services are sending serious kit down to help.
Just heard there at 4 still trapped. A dad and his 5 year old among them. Fucking hell lads.
Confirmed at least 3 dead
Horrible to hear
