Aertel would be great as a modern alternative to the amaerican eas. We could use it as our eas. If an emergency happens the teletext could be reactivated so that people can get loads of information incase Internet went down

  1. The move to digital killed Teletext as it was encoded on analogue blanking lines.

I think digital TV has similar capability. The cell network also supports broadcast in emergency.

Loved Teletext back in the day

  2. If you’re to go by this sub, more and more people don’t have televisions nowadays. It doesn’t seem like the best medium in the current age

  3. SMS and FM radio should be used for our EAS.

Everyone in the country has a mobile phone and/ or a radio. For a country that has a big divide between rural and urban, I think using both of these is the best option.

  4. As a youth I loved Teletext at Christmas. Each channel would make their service festive I think at the start of December. Can remember browsing it accompanied with our living room Christmas tree in the background, the tv muted and it was so relaxing.

Teletext was absolutely essential for many years until it suddenly wasn’t.
