Hungary and Turkey are the last two roadblocks to NATO membership for Finland and Sweden | Euronews

  1. It makes little difference since everyone knows that a military strike against Finland or Sweden would currently be avenged by 99% of NATO’s power whatever the state of the treaties.

Whereas a military strike against Turkey or Hungary would have the NATO lawyers going to town about specifics of “it’s not actually affecting the security of the North Atlantic so no remedial measures are required” or some such.

  2. I hope that one day in the future, I can be alive for a headline that has “Hungary” in it, and people will be cheering us for a decision.

  3. Is it possible to dispel / remove a country from NATO? If so, if Hungary does not approve Finland and Sweden to NATO, it can be interesting for NATO members to remove Hungary, and get Finland and Sweden in.

  4. If anyone is wondering why Orbán is holding out, he’s demanding that the EU gives him the total and in one sum all the EU funding right now without any more undue beaucratic delays. Deli Andor has already submitted the [proposal](https://hvg.hu/eurologus/20221011_Az_osszes_unios_penzt_egy_osszegben_keri_a_Fidesz) that asked for this.

This is the only useful negotiating position Orbán has left due to ruining almost all EU diplomatic relations over the decade. Nobody wants to talk to him, even our closest crypto-fascist ally Poland has grown cold to us over our support of Russia. Orbán has openly daydreamed that a new wave of conservative governments will rise within the EU and he is betting on that.

  5. US removed prerequisites from Turkish F-16 sale today, so it’s likely Turkey will not veto this application anymore.

It’s just Turkish assembly is busy fighting each other about the new social media law. Which basically lets government imprison anyone who says (or retweets, likes, shares etc.) something they don’t like on the internet.

They don’t have time for this, lol.
