Hi, I have found an flat that I would like to rent. I was told I need a garantie account. After a few hours online reading, it seems I could set-up my garantie deposit online, does [garantie.be](https://garantie.be/) an authentic government website? Thanks…or any tips that I can set the garantie online without going to bank. thanks.

  1. This is not a government website. This is a private company started in January 2021: [https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbopub/zoeknummerform.html?nummer=0761.516.118&actionLu=Search](https://kbopub.economie.fgov.be/kbopub/zoeknummerform.html?nummer=0761.516.118&actionLu=Search)

Just open a deposit bank account at your bank (ING, BNP, KBC, Argenta, Belfius, …). If you don’t already have a bank account yet then the “caisse des dépôts” has a service for it: [https://finances.belgium.be/fr/particuliers/habitation/location/garantie-locative](https://finances.belgium.be/fr/particuliers/habitation/location/garantie-locative) but you need to have a Belgian ID. If you don’t have a bank account or Belgian ID, then I don’t know what solution exists.

Edit: It sounds like another option is for the landlord to open the blocked account in your name. Maybe that’s an option if you are just moving to Belgium and don’t have an account and ID card.

  2. If you’re coming from abroad, try asking the immo office if they can hold the funds for you temporarily and then open the guarantee account once you’re have a bank or are able to use the government site (easiest to use if you have an eID).

Some banks may offer expat services if you’re coming to Belgium from certain countries which could help with opening accounts etc before you get here.
