Man jailed for trying to murder lottery-winning partner

  1. It’s a bit cheeky of the BBC to use that headline. The lottery win was in 2017 and the attack was in 2021.

    > Ms Brown, 49, was found by neighbours in a pool of blood having been stabbed in the face, arms and stomach.

    > As he sentenced Gibbs, Judge Richard Twomlow told him: “You took drugs and alcohol on regular basis. Jealousy had been developing, including the use of tracking device. You’d been drinking, and you accused her of lying.
    >
    > “You look a large knife from the kitchen, and you said I’m going to kill you. You left the house and drove away thinking you had killed her.

Anything from those paragraphs would have been a better headline and less click baity.

  2. Damn he’s got a fucking habit of doing this

    > The court heard he had previous convictions of violence, including stabbing a previous partner and her 11-year-old son in 2005.

This time it happened due to her saying she wanted to end their relationship.

    > The flooring worker flew into a rage when Ms Brown told him she wanted to end their relationship,
    > Ms Brown, 49, was found by neighbours in a pool of blood having been stabbed in the face, arms and stomach. She required surgery after the attack but has been left with life-changing injuries.

    > In victim impact statement read in court, Ms Brown said she has blurred vision in her right eye, could “only use 75 per cent of [her] sight” and has numbness in her left cheek.

    > She is unable to fully move her right arm up to her head.

  3. Scary thing is the timelines make me wonder how he met his recent partner as it looks like they have been together for 2 years before he was even released from prison for stabbing his first one.

Can anyone make any sense of this and point out what I’ve missed

First in 2005, given a extended sentence of 10 years of which 6 years had to be in custody,

    > 22 JUL 2005

    > A Cardiff Crown Court judge, who yesterday gave Gibbs a 10-year extended sentence,

    > Judge John Griffith QC said there had to be an extended sentence of which **six years** will be spent in custody because Gibbs was a danger to the public.

So that makes it 2011 before being released, this current one has been together for 12 years so they must have got together in 2009 while he was still in prison.

    > We’d been together for 12 years
