How is tolerating a fascist dictatorship looking to restore an empire the Left wing position?

  1. It’s not. These muppets can call themselves whatever they want but all they really are is an embarrassment. The sooner we can get rid of them, the better.

  2. I would like to know their exact reasons for voting no, I am not saying whether they are right or wrong, but they have been blatantly misrepresented by the media in that past.

If the wording of the condemnation called for the creation and further federalisation of the European army or the expansion or blank cheque rearming and development of NATO. Then of course they would both against the resolution. Despite any other wording.

I have my concerns about Wallace and how bought and paid for, he appears to be by Beijing.

But that is the nature of democracy, if the public do not like the performance of their representatives, they can complain and get rid of them at the next election.

Everyone is entitled to their own view. Whether you agree with it or not.

  3. Politicians should just tag a generic ‘condemnation of Russia’ onto every bit of legislation put forward, and all news outlets will dutifully report ‘x votes against condemning Russia’ if anyone dares to oppose it.

It’s total propaganda, even from RTE, at this stage.

  4. Because the yanks and Brits are against Russia. That’s the entire foreign policy for a lot of these freaks. Twitter commits, dirty old crusties and general contrarian lunatics never go beyond this point. If the west supports something it must be bad.

  5. Clare Daly spoke eloquently and clearly and she was dead right – the Cuban Missile Crisis wasn’t this close to nuclear war and the whole world was trying to prevent that. There is a frightening madness in the lack of condemnation of what’s going on at the moment. Weapons dealers and power mongers must be more in control of the media than we are prepared for.

And she has condemned Russia a dozen times. If you really need every single fucking public speaker to say “I condemn Russia” before every single thing they say then can you at least recognise you are on the edge of paranoid delusion.

Everyone pleading that we find a sensible end to this conflict is not being ‘paid by Putin’ for fuck sake grow up.

  6. Leftie here.

It has also annoyed me how most ppl on the left rabidly defend fascist regimes because they’re ‘socialist’.

    Paul Murphy Venezuela

    PBP Russia

Even Miggeldys not immune. His Castro eulogy was a fucking disgrace.

That and your general whitewashing of the Soviet Union and China among left leaners. And we’ll, you get the point.

  7. I’m trying to wrap my head around the mental gymnastics people go through to support these two clowns. Remember when it was don’t worry guys it’s just purely defensive mobilisation. Putins latest speech says everything we need to know about Russias intents. Meanwhile you have these two shinning their shoes.

  8. Idiots on the wrong side of history – I’m a socialist and by definition anti-imperialist. Russia is the aggression, no matter how much NATO has expanded there is 0 excuse for the deaths of Ukrainians. Children bomb in their beds. Families torn apart whilst men and women go to the frontline. Massive trauma. Sexual assault.
    For shame

  9. The ordinary person can see no difference if the man standing with his boot on their neck is wearing a red flag with a swastica or a hammer and sickle. And neither does Putin. The hard right in the US, Italy France or the hard left in Ireland. He’ll support anyone who he thinks will benefit him.

  10. I read Daly’s statement: she condemns the actions of Russia, but also rejects the EU single-narrative and urges that the EU stop escalating conflict and rather urge a ceasefire.

She says she agrees with much of the resolution but not with:

    1. Sending more weapons to Ukraine.
    2. For neutral states to abandon neutrality.
    3. Unrealistic conditions to end conflict.
    4. Continuation of sanctions that hurt EU citizens.

I had to dig this up because the media just lambast them as arseholes. Judge for yourself.

  11. I went and read the RTE article about this and it said they were specifically voting against paragraph 5. So here are some parts of the resolution that they presumably agree with:

    > the Russian Federation… has persistently been violating the principles of the UN Charter through its aggressive actions against the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine…

    > the Russian Federation has continued its illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine over recent months…

    > a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive… has led to the discovery of new evidence of the serious human rights violations and war crimes committed by Russian forces and their proxies…

    > thousands of civilians have already been murdered and many more tortured, harassed, sexually assaulted, kidnapped or forcibly displaced… this inhumane conduct by the Russian forces and their proxies is in total disregard for international humanitarian law…

    > hastily-organised sham ‘referendums’ took place between 23 and 27 September 2022 in the partly Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine… the voting process included systemic abuses of human rights and intimidation, notably the presence of armed Russian soldiers…

    > Vladimir Putin warned that… [Russia] would ‘certainly use all the means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people’… the words ‘all the means at our disposal’ are thinly veiled nuclear blackmail…

    > [The European Parliament] condemns in the strongest possible terms the unjustified, unprovoked and illegal Russian war of aggression against Ukraine… Russia bears full responsibility for the war and that it must immediately stop the war and withdraw all its forces and proxy forces from all internationally recognised territories belonging to Ukraine…

    > [The European Parliament] Strongly condemns the massive and grave violations of human rights and war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces, its proxies and the occupation authorities installed by Russia in Ukraine… the responsible government officials and military leaders and perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide, must be held accountable

The part they said they were against was the part about asking countries to “massively increase their military assistance”. Now it seems like the general consensus here is that massively increasing military assistance to Ukraine is the right way to go, but I don’t think if someone thinks that Russia is engaging in an illegal war of aggression, is committing crimes against humanity, must be held accountable, but disagrees over the right amount of military assistance to Ukraine that that counts as tolerating Russia.

  12. Can you name one left wing position either of these political workers take on anything? Not big on solidarity with the working people of Ukraine getting shot at by Russia. Not left wing to deny people their experience and try to supplant it with mythical narratives. Not much left wing mileage in denying the efficacy of vaccines (while taking them anyway) and scurrying about trying to annoy door people asking you to don your mask, just for the sake of making the same point as an ultra conservative from the muddy parts of Poland. They are reactionary and sub-par. Good job nobody pays them a blind bit of attention.

  13. Being against Nato is fine to be fair, I’ve no real issues but blaming Nato for the actions of Russia is plain dumb. You can condemn Russia and not support Nato at the same time. I get where Claire daily comes from, trade unionist but Mick Wallace ex property developer supporting Russia?
