As well as being much more contagious than Delta, Javid also said early evidence suggests that incubation is now shorter with Omicron as well. That means that it’ll show up in testing more quickly and pre-departure testing is much more viable.
Why do the not tell us the percentage of sequenced tests that day that are Omnicron? Then you could try draw some conclusions as to prevalence. One cannot compare omicron numbers to daily total infections because most of them are not sequenced and thus could be anything.
No WFH mandate yet though. We can no longer keep the Omnicron variant out but we can take steps to reduce community transmission if we act fast enough. It’s a shame we have a government who seems to pride itself on doing the opposite of that.
