Primark re-introduces women-only fitting rooms

  1. The problem is still there.

Curtains instead of doors with locks. Anyone can still walk in, doesn’t matter if it’s a woman walking in on a woman or woman on a man or man on a woman or man on a man. All these should not happen

Primary get with the times and have changing rooms with doors

  2. Thank fuck for that.

The number of times I’ve had women trying to sneak a look at the anaconda while I’m trying on jeans!

    Outrageous.

  3. Combined fitting rooms are fine if you have actual doors on them, it’s when you have a shitty half curtain that it’s an issue.

  4. Nothing stops sex offenders like a women only sign and a curtain.

I can understand woman wanting women-only spaces to feel safer, however it is as if Primark did not even consider how to make women feel safe to begin with. Even unisex rooms should have a lockable door, it is not like men cannot be assaulted in them too. It just shows how companies are ignoring practical solutions when it comes to unisex areas.

  5. What Primark should really be focusing on in the fitting rooms is those awful mirrors that make you look like the ugliest creature alive and leave you sobbing quietly on the little bench as you stare at your body and face from all possible angles until you step into the light of day and realise you don’t even look that heinous

  6. BBC conveniently leaving out the part where this is for ALL women and that includes trans women. It’s not a cis women only space. Everyone needs to remember that the people who caused the recent problem with the unisex changing rooms were cis men.

  7. I just hate the whole curtain thing.. But it isn’t an issue with men or transpeople or whatever – it’s other womens’ little kids they aren’t supervising!

Will never forget the time I made a toddler bawl their eyes out because I yelped when they just flung my damn curtain wide open while I was half-undressed!

  8. Unpopular opinion, but Primark should focus on getting doors with locks for changing rooms. Never felt so uncomfortable and dysphoric in my life in those changing rooms and it sucks, as they’re unisex. On paper, it’s fine. In society? Well…

  9. The problem isn’t the gender or fitting rooms it’s the access. Why on earth in 2022 are brands still getting away with having flimsy curtains you can literally rip open and are 6ft off the ground anyway??

  10. It’s not the gender of the room that matters of you still have those shitty curtain’s, can’t they get a good deal on some doors?

  11. I’m sure this comment thread is going to be an absolute joy to read, completely pleasant and civil discussions expected. /s

  12. Except they haven’t. They were asked to clarify what criteria they’re using to define “women” and haven’t replied. This means that they’re neither segregating the rooms based on presentation (not saying they should) or sex. So literally anyone can go in. Useless.

  13. I honestly don’t understand why they changed it in the first place, is there actually any normal people who want gender neutral changing rooms?

  14. This makes zero sense. Looks like I’m going to have to try clothes on at the racks. That reminds me, I need new boxers

  15. Toilets are gendered, people don’t like that. Changing rooms aren’t gendered, people don’t like that either.

    🤷‍♂️

  16. All of these issues get misaligned so much.

Whatever the problem is, it can all be stopped if every fitting room is big enough for two people and is a room (not some stall etc) that has a decent lock.

Any other arguments are just side points.

Sectioning off half the population = side point, because sexual assaults can’t happen through walls.

Transgender arguments = side point because you can’t see genitals through walls.

  17. I want men only changing rooms as well as women only, saves the embarrassment and potential false claims of harassment or assault. Definitely want both parties to be protected from any chance.
