They are even scared of putting Ukraine under their nuclear umbrella, what makes you think they will fire retaliatory nuclear strikes.
Tbh I have serious doubts about the whole “nuclear umbrella” system. And as I said earlier, Ukraine is not even under that NATO nuclear umbrella.
Keep in mind that people in the West have a good life (compared with the rest of the world) and they have much to lose. Meaning they prefer the status quo.

Thankfully smarter people than myself are in charge of these things but if it were up to me I would clearly state that a nuke from Russia would automatically trigger a Nato response on Russian soil, so strong that Russia would need to nuke Nato countries. This would make it clear that a tactical nuke from RU would lead to global nuclear warfare.
