Your gf is tripping. Yeah, they can be a “touristy” thing, if that’s what she meant by the same category as trdelník – but that’s usually the larger, whole-circle ones. And even then, they’re absolutely delicious in any form and a pretty normal treat. I honestly would never group it in the same category, they’re a normal candy thing.
lmao prdelnik got me laughing (prd=fart) 😂 I think you meant trdelnik right?
No it’s not the same category, I love lazenske oplatky. For me as a Czech trdelnik is not typical czech food and growing up I never even knew it existed. But ever since we were kids we loved lazenske oplatky and for me it’s a Czech thing and we always liked the warm ones when traveling to Marianske Lazne with family (even though I think originaly it comes from Germany or something)
> Prdelník
Bruh…
It would be same category if you would bought them “freshly” baked on street
It’s more traditional, but even the whole Trdelník obsession is cringe, yeah the traditional value is overstated in the touristy centers but we have centuries-old cookbooks showing it was eaten here for a long ass while. It feels like there is a YouTuber who convinced the whole country how bad it is
I just saw them few times at the zoo
It’s not the same as the tourist trap trdlo
She is technically right, but not in the way you think.
Both Trdelník and Lázěňské oplatky are not originally czech, but have been here for centuries.
While trdelnik became mainstream in last couple decades, oplatky have been mass produced for much longer.
She ment like taste or that it is traditional czech?
Prdelník 😂 made my day
This is mostly touristic thing but is not like trdelnik. It’s true Czech-made sweets.
Fidorka is much better.
They’re great, I live in a spa city, there’s a shop here, where you can buy local lázeňské oplatky, including an warmed up oplatka for 10 crowns a piece.
No. “Prdelník” doesn’t even exist, the correct spelling is “trdelník”. Your GF probably used it jokingly because “prd” is “fart” and “prdel” is “ass” (body part, not donkey).
Both trdelník and lázeňské oplatky are popular (and traditional) sweets in this country but they are different. Enjoy both!
Just beware that although lázeňské oplatky have existed and been popular in this country, trdelníky not that much. You could buy them as a street food during some events and they are available at tourist traps.
As a person thats growing up in Frantiskovy Lazne, i love that, its better than trdelnik, for real, eggnog flavor is the best!
Buy those in blue packaging. They are much better.
Almost every thermal spa sells their own wafers, and Karlsbad is the most significant one with a long tradition. They are a legitimate treat.
Karlovy Vary represent! The traditional kind is a thin wafer, best served warmed up at the colonade. This thick version is modern, but I’d say it’s still pretty good.
Your gf is tripping. I genuinely love those. I’m sometimes randomly bribed with candy or chocolate (for helping a younger student with an essay, saving a classmate’s homework or whatev) and these definitely are on the list of treats I’d happily help out for.
Like, randomly getting those would genuinely make my day.
It’s been made in Czechia for more than 150 years. At least the thin round ones.
These multi-layer ones are actually disgusting IMO.
They are something diferent and a lot cheaper.
😂”prdel”=”ass” 😂
Lol I am still grieving after dad’s funeral but this made me laugh my ass off😅
Whats wrong with trdelník?
Those are absolutely yucky. Full of palm grease. The original ones are two layers of paper thin wafer with sugar and a single spice or ground nut as a filling (cinnamon and hazelnut are excellent) and they will give you Heath Ledgers joker scars if you eat too many.
No they are traditional. Real tradition.
nope
Prdelnik is disgusting, lázeňské oplatky jsou gold
Prde- fucking what?
No, this is much better, mainly because it is cheaper, but also the dark chocolate ones have an amazing chocolate aftertaste!
I prefer the blue ones (the package is blue), that are circular and thin. Everything else is either too sweet or just plain shit.
It’s my city juhuuu
Prdelnik is the best word ever, it made my day better😂
No, these are different.
omg….gatekeeping food…….here it goes again
eat what you like, care about your health
I consider these Czech.

Lázeňské oplatky are great, but not trojhránky. The circular ones!
hahaha i think trdelník and prdelnik suits better.. this oplatky is delicious, idk why she dislike it. but since she’s a czech, she must flex czech foods especially to their foreign lovers😀😀😀
Im form Mariánské Lázne and no
Beware which brand you choose, as usually they are full of palm oil and other shitty ingredients. Full of false advertising too – the most “traditional recipes” are usually worst liars – full of palmoil and artificial additives.
You can find the proper ones, but they are less accessible and more expensive, but your health will thank you.
For example Krakonošovy oplátky, Oplátky Zlín, Oplátky Marlax.
From the Opavia brand, you can find amazing Wafers “premium oplatky Kolonáda s tabulkou hořké čokolády”, I really recommend them.
Trdelnik didn’t exist in 1990s Prague etc, oplatky did.
No its not
