Just read the sad story in headline today. [WN](https://www.wn.de/muensterland/kreis-steinfurt/horstmar/horstmar-unfall-pedelec-tot-2642716)

I‘ve been in Germany only for one year, I think I have heard about too many car crashes involving drivers above 70.

What is the root cause? I haven’t researched it, just by gut feeling I think it happens too often in Germany compared to other countries I’ve lived in.

  1. * Bad hearing
    * Bad eye sight
    * slower reflexes
    * tendency to forget checking mirrors, shoulder etc.
    * Stubbornes to accept that your senses and probably your mental and physical capacities are not up to scratch anymore to drive a machine with one or more tons of mass.

  2. Germany is a car centric, geriatric country. Safety for cyclists and to some degree pedestrians is an afterthought and not a priority. I am actually surprised the article didnt frame it like its the cyclists fault because she didnt wear a helmet or a high vis jacket and therefore deserves it

    The result is amongst others the “accident” you’ve linked
