Hei, I have been living in Finland for almost a year now (in student housing) and have started to notice the arising black mold between the bathroom tiles in my apartment ([https://themoldinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/how-to-remove-black-mould-from-silicone-sealant-300×191.jpg](https://themoldinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/how-to-remove-black-mould-from-silicone-sealant-300×191.jpg)). I was wondering what is the solution for this? Should I complain to my student housing about cleaning this, or should I clean it by myself? If I have to do it by myself, could anyone link the cleaning product in prisma, so I could use them! (I could not find the usual cleaning liquid I use in my country!)

  1. That looks like mildew and you’re supposed to get rid of it on your own.

But if it’s actual mold you should contact hoas right away when you notice it.

  2. You might be able to buy some dedicated mould remover from grocery shops – they come in a spray bottle and are foaming, so they stay on the mould longer on vertical surfaces.

Make sure the bathroom stays warm and well-ventilated.

  3. The main thing is to keep the bathroom dry. Buy a foam squeegee and wipe any excess water from the floor after taking a shower. If you are the only user of the bathroom, use a cotton floormat or towel to dry the surfaces with most water and then hang them to dry. Change your towel often and dry it somewhere else, not in the bathroom. Clean the air vent in the ceiling (and in the kitchen). Open a window and any necessary doors for a few minutes every day to let in cold and dry replacement air. Leave the bathroom door ajar always when possible. If there is floor heating, obviously keep it on.
