Braverman asylum plan may breach refugee convention, says UNHCR

  1. Then change the convention to give countries absolute control over who they let in or not.

All countries should have the right to refuse entry or leave to remain to any non citizens, for any reason, or no reason at all. Countries should never be forced to take in people they don’t want to.

  2. You think she cares? Her response will either be to ignore this or just say “Why are you booing me? I’m right!” She claimed to dream about being able to do this yesterday. Johnson thought it was his divine right and Braverman seems to think it is her divine right to deport people to Rwanda. No one is going to change her mind now that she sees this as a possibility, she is just that evil.

  3. Do these people ever think of the optics of a situation.
Why would you send people who are fleeing a really nasty place looking for asylum in a country that is relatively stable to a country like Rwanda which has commited acts of Genocide in living memory. Seriously!!!

  4. That will probably be another U turn then.

I wish there was a political option to just throw in the towel.

  5. I think anyone salivating at the bit to literally tie people up and ship them off to a foreign country for financial reward needs to be locked up for a long time.

  6. It’s not the word “dream” that was scary it was the word she used after saying she dreams to have a plane to Rwanda… and that word was “obsessed” she has an obsession to getting it done. That is effing scary

  7. We are going to have to start ignoring conventions, agreements and the like if we are going to stop the invasion. There are hundreds of millions of people in the world who could probably make a reasonable claim for asylum under current rules. We can’t take them all. There just isn’t room.
Our borders, our rules from now on.

  8. Meanwhile.

Labour urges Suella Braverman to ramp up asylum seeker deportations

Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves says low level of deportations is a ‘problem’

There’s no alternative to this at an election, Blair’s labour was awful to immigrants, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers too and now they’re back to those ways.

We get the government that hates foreigners or the government that hates foreigners.

  9. From the Australian experience, once you roll out policies like this, there is no going back politically. Doesn’t matter whether the conservatives or labour is in. No one will ever have the political will to withstand the accusation of being the one to ‘open the floodgates’ again.

  10. I’ve met and worked with this woman once, a while ago admittedly, but she was just awful. One of the stupidest, most ignorant and ugly (inside) people I’ve ever met. It’s terrifying that she’s anywhere near power.
