An alternative would simply be to let the restaurants/bars decide whether or not they want to allow people to smoke on their terrace, the same way as they decide on what they put in their plates, and customers choose to come or not, it’s a private business after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, let’s ban smoking on terraces, like that we only have the purest exhaust smog to breathe in!
Great idea!

I honestly find smoking on a Terrasse really annoying. I am sitting there enjoying my meal or drink while the smoke of the chain smokers next to me is blowing right over me. I guess I also have a right not sitting in a cloud of smoke while enjoying my meal?
The question is why a non smoker should have to accept being exposed to cigarette smoke?
If you want to smoke and gradually kill yourself, do it somewhere where non-smokers are not impacted. It’s your private business. It’s as simple as this.
If Luxembourg is really too restrictive to allow coffe shop’s like in Amsterdam where people can smoke and socialise then ban the whole entire smoking thing. We live in such a restrictive ohhh lalala society ban everything and we go back to being nomads.
Objective journalism at its finest lol. I stopped reading at „spoiler alert: blablabla“.
This should be completely prohibited, along with driving, which can kill directly by accident and indirectly by all the smog. Also eating to many calories a day, I think restaurant should as clients to provide the food they ate that day which can be all recorded in an governmental app and if they ate junk food or to many calories that day then restaurant can’t serve them unless they jog a while in the treadmill in the roof.
And of course public display of affection should be banned. If you want to exchange mouth microbes and potential virus with other person, do it somewhere where redditors are not psychologically impacted. It’s your private business. It’s as simple as this.
Considering the incredible amount of smokers who claim banning smoking on terraces and other waiting areas (bus stops, train stations…) is a violation of their rights/freedom, I guess we should lift the bans on asbestos, glyphosate and leaded fuel.
Preventing me from using Round-up in my garden (which will eventually end up on your lettuce) is an absolute offence to my freedom. Just tell your kids to wear a fullface gasmask + nitrile gloves everytime they want to play in your garden.

Sadly enough this whole discussion leads to nowhere other than people being offended on both sides.
The thing is, imagine if you were the owner of a business in this industry.
Would you forbid smoking on your terrance and risk a big loss of potential income ? Naturally, people want to enjoy their drinks or meals in a space free of that stuff. Since i switched to vaping, i am very much bothered by the smell of cigarettes. I can get that without question, but the same thing goes the other way around. Some dont start smoking because they freely chose to, there is a reason behind it. And i can talk from experience, most cant stop. It is extremely hard.
Back at the beginnings if the 2000’s, or earlier (dont remember when it was) smoking was in allowed in restaurants and pretty much normal.
Would you be an outcast as a smoker then when you cant even enjoy your night at the bar or the restaurant? In my opinion, absolutely. Would you be outraged by that change if it became a law? Yep, there woud be nore discussions and fights over this.
Well i mean, every side has its valid points, you cant argue with that. But this is either way an attack on personal freedom. Now how do we handle this ?
Well, I did *not* expect ever to see this old opinion of mine again. Also glad to see that the existence of opinions still cause confusion. /Martin (RTL Today)
Peeing is an (unavoidable) activity that benefits only to the one that practices it. You are not allowed to do it anywhere to do not affect others. There are designated places to do so.
Why would be smoking, which is ultimately a chosen activity that please only to the one that practices it while bothering the others, allowed to do it in unrestricted places?
I am not against smoking choices as long as it does not interfere with my choice of not breath smoke.
Smoking in a table as a personal choice and hoping that the smoke do not affect the people in the surrounding area is as Sinic as peeing in a corner of the swimming pool and hoping that the pee does not affect anybody else.
