Just another day in Bugibbastan…

  1. Does anyone know if these are locals or not? It’s pretty astonishing to see minors threatening people with knives as a gang and terrorising a neighbourhood like this. It’s curious to see them focus on that one particular household, so there’s likely more to this story than meets the eye.

Never heard of this news site before. Looks like a Lovin Malta clone.

  2. These gangs have been terrorizing the same area for more than ten years. I know because I used to frequent the same area. The playground is a drug hot spot and no one would dare take their children there at night. There are various gangs running around. Foreigners, Maltese and even mixed. That area needs a heavy police presence.

  3. Damn, my grandmother lives 30 seconds away by walk. Bugibba is home to some very troubled teenagers, and it’s been like that for a long time. I’m 30, now, but I remember being 13-14 and going out with friends in Bugibba and you know you have to be really careful, otherwise you would get jumped by other kids your age you’re likely to encounter. They walk up to you looking for trouble and you have to play your cards right to not disrespect them and not look like too much of a pussy with your friends, at the same time, especially if you had girls in the group, which they’d be more than likely to grope. I don’t understand where this stems from. I knew a normal, sweet kid I used to play the pokemon games with who decided to join a Bugibba gang when he was 12 and until this day, even at 30 years old, he walks around Bugibba looking for trouble and trying to keep his “street cred”. I knew another one from school who was sweet. I remember having an hour conversation with him about WWE when he was 12. He seemed like just a normal kid l, innocent. He joined a Bugibba gang soon after, and it’s the same for him. I came across his profile on FB and he’s still trying to keep his street cred. Shirtless photos with a “bully” posture like someone who’s just aching for a fight, even at 29. What the hell do Bugibba gangs do to people and what purpose do they serve, anyway? I have no idea why those gangs exist. There’s no point to them. They don’t steal money, they just run around causing trouble for trouble’s sake, and they change people’s mindsets and personalities forever. I don’t understand. I used to sh*t myself when some of my Bugibba friends wanted to go to the playground mentioned in the article at night because they knew some of the teens they hung around over there. Why do these gangs exist??

  4. Why aren’t their parents in trouble cos of them? These are gangsters in the making. Their impunity encourages other gangs to form. This needs to be nipped in the bud!!

  5. The fact that you wrote “Bugibbastan” is interesting. We love to blame our issues on foreigners and maybe all of these teens were foreign, who knows? But I think when something like this happens the real issue is the lack of police care/response. You might argue (if all the teens are indeed foreign) that had it not been for foreigners, we wouldn’t have to face issues like this, however, that reasoning is v flawed. With that reasoning you are implying the police is good, until challenged. They’re fit for purpose, as long as everyone abides by the rules and obeys the law. Sooner or later, this incompetence and general apathy would’ve come out anyway (in my opinion).

  6. So should I arm myself when I come to stay in the San Antonio next week ? I’ve been to qawra about 30 times and I’ve never seen any mither on the other hand where I live in Manchester I see trouble all the time ,

  7. If qawra loses tourism through lack of police effort because tourists don’t feel safe , that’s when the government will do something because they are losing money ,
