UK warned not to replicate Australia’s immigration detention centres

  1. That warning comes from detainees in the Australian system **who can leave at any time**. Most detainees have opted for resettlement in PNG or returning to their home country. The petulant professional complainers still there are only there because they think if a one-sided narrative continues to be pushed they may eventually be allowed to jump the queue.

So all I can really say is [Yawn](https://i.redd.it/cllu9z2elho41.jpg)

Since implementing our Australian system, ocean drownings have dropped to *zero*. We still take in refugees, through more formal means instead. It’s safer, allows vetting, stops drownings.

  2. Illegal immigrants need to stop crossing the Channel.

    1. Because its illegal.

    2. Because committing a crime is not a great way to introduce yourself to the society that you want to join.

    3. Because it leads to deaths.

    4. Because there are legal alternatives.

I hear it disputed that we should offer more legitimate ways of immigrating… which is claimed would end the illegal crossings… which personally I find ridiculous because obviously we can’t accept everyone so how would that end the illegal corssings ? Genuine question

  3. The Australian system _works._ Ocean drownings have massively reduced. It’s not even technically detention either, because the “detainees” _are free to leave at any time._

The Australian system is safer, makes vetting much easier, and deters those who are illegally migrating for economic purposes as opposed to legitimate asylum seekers.

  4. >> “I cannot stress enough the ruinous costs of offshore detention, not only in money spent but international reputation and most importantly to the physical and mental health of people who were seeking a decent life.”

Right…Money is of no object when it’s not yours, so the first point won’t apply to the tories. Our money will be shovelled into companies set up by their mates to build these places, so that’s no deterrent. Only a massive draw.

Our international reputation is already in the bin; they already made sure of that with Brexit, Covid response, “diplomatic” relations along the likes of “watermelon smiles” and various insults to every EU country, and the US, China etc…

    >> most importantly to the physical and mental health of people who were seeking a decent life.

Right…yes. Like any of our current government gives a rats arse about the well being of any asylum seeker.

Patel is positively foaming in various parts at the mere thought of concentration camps. These “warnings” will be seen as a fucking advert for it by this current “government”.

    >> Zivardar said: “I left Iran to seek safety, instead I became a prisoner. These island prisons were designed to be a place of torture, humiliation, cruelty and racism. They were intended to drive innocent people, including hundreds of children and women, to either go back to the countries from which they came, or die on the island.”

I mean, what part of that do we think Patel isn’t smirking at when reading?

  5. I don’t think we should be letting that reptillian sadist Priti Patel build prison camps where she can torment people without supervision.
