It’s difficult but I think we really need to reform the warrant system.
When I was burgled we eventually recovered our stuff by finding some things for sale, posing as a buyer and taking evidence to the police. But even then it was tough for them to get a search warrant.
In the end they found tens of thousands of pounds of drugs prepared for sale, etc. in the same address after raiding it.
So we should make it easier to take phone GPS location, etc. as warrant evidence, because often burglars are involved in all sorts of other crime too, so it should be a priority even when the value of goods lost in one event isn’t that high.
All in all, criminals have far too many rights. They know they are protected by weak laws.
I think marketplaces should have more responsibility too – i.e. if it were mandatory to sign up with national ID for Facebook, eBay, etc. and register serial numbers, etc. so police could do more automated scans. Abolishing cash would help a lot too (getting them to send their bank details was great evidence in our case!).
Damn, the budget crisis must be bad if police are having to burgle houses.
What will constitute attending, a phone call, someone visiting a week later? There are not enough police, the Tories saw to that, and will again if the promised cuts to the public finances go ahead.
So burglary is flavour of the month then? I wonder what it will be next month?
We simply do not have enough resources. It won’t change anything. It won’t improve detection rates.
The reason why burglars are hard to prove?
Criminals are forensically aware. They wear gloves to stop fingerprints, they wear hats and masks to hide their faces on CCTV. How are we supposed to identify these suspects?
It will be nice for people to just be given a Crime number in person rather than over the phone. Won’t make a jot of difference
It shouldnt be about attending, it should be about investigating.
Id rather have a csi attend and a follow up by a detective should they get a fingerprint or dna hit, that a couple of kids mansplaining home security to me, whilst walking over and touching all the evidence .
This is presumably after the Burglar’s Union called for supervision of home burglary for health and safety reasons

To be fair, I’ve been burgled twice (two separate houses) and both times police came pretty quickly and were as helpful as they could be. Even got my stuff back from one of them.
This was a few years ago and I’m sure others have different experiences, but just wanted to acknowledge some of the good stuff too.
Contrary to popular belief (media fuelled), many police forces to provide an excellent service for dwelling (house) burglaries.
In my force, you will have response intially attend. Then scenes of crime, PCSOs for reassurance and CID who ultimately investigate it.
Why would we go to every burglary, when we don’t have resources to go to every domestic abuse or ongoing violence call?
If you can’t solve the burglary and extract restitution from the crimer in question it doesn’t really matter
Attending is not the same as investigating though, is it.
The only way this is ever going to happen is if the burglar ‘misgenders’ the victim on the way out
Aren’t they meant to do that now anyway? If not then they clearly aren’t doing their job in serving the public.

About 20 years ago we got burgled, the police did find the person. But didn’t press charges as they were already going to jail for something else… Doesn’t make sense to me.
