Although a general election won’t happen, it’s about sending a message, a message that will be covered by the media to show what an embarrassment the tories are and fingers crossed makes it impossible for them to be in power for the next GE.
We won’t have one because the gov know they will lose.
Waiting for the regime to laugh & throw this straight out.
Everyone sign if you havent already. It takes 2 mins
Make it happen
I’ve signed and have been checking the rapidly climbing numbers. I also checked the map out of interest and was surprised to see twice the number of signatures from my current true blue town compared to the next town which has had a labour council since forever. It doesn’t mean much really but I’m clinging onto any hope this lot will be out at the next GE
I’m going to put the request in my letter to santa instead. Same fucking result.
More people have signed this petition than voted Truss into power. Says a lot about the Tories commitment to the will of the people.
“We’ve considered your proposal and after much deliberation decided that we would quite like to keep our power”
0.5-0.8% of the voters.
No chance this gets talked about for more than 4 seconds.
Wonder how many of those signed will be voting Tory ?
So nearly 6 x as many people have signed this petition as voted Liz truss into power
At 500,000 It’s still less than 1% of the population.
The brexit one hit six million. They did fuck all about that too
It’s not that the petition makes a difference. It’s the sentiment behind it. Compare this to other petitions and you’ll know how big this one is. The very fact 500,000 people signed it shows how big this issue is to the public.
Id be a tad bit worrie if I was the conservatives.
The debate will last five minutes max before it will be rejectet and binned.
Are labour actually ready to win- or another question, is the general public actually aware of how shit the tories are, especially when we already got to where we are now
They’ll hang on the 2 years in the hope that Ukraine wins, prices go back to normal and we haven’t all frozen or gone bust

To put this into perspective.

UKIP got 594k votes in the 2017 general election…
*’This Petition makes no difference’*
Broadly people are right, this won’t trigger a GE, but the more signatures, the more headlines, the more pressure on the Tories.
This is twice as many people as those who saw the queen lying in state.
No Confidence vote.
So was Lizz and Kwasi testing the people?
U turn?
Kwasi quote ‘ so what if the pound drops’.
Too soon.
Lets see what the ‘Carnival spenders’ are going to visit the bank for next!
Remember when revoke article 50 and remain got 6M signatures and nothing was done or really discussed…not even a … ‘we won’t do a Hard leave’ because of how polarising it is…. They won’t do anything that’s not in their interests
As much as I hate to say it, a general election would still likely see a conservative win. Labour just don’t have a strong enough leader or mandate.
The polls say otherwise, but how often have pills been right
They have a real talent for hanging on…
Christ knows how.
If she called it now, conservatives would be done for.
This wont make any difference because the Tories control when the next election is, and looking at the polls they wont want one yet.
This shit simply wouldn’t fly in Scotland.
No party has an absolute majority in Parliament. Not only that, but there are always enough people to rebel in a party when push comes to shove over a vote of no confidence.
Instead, the UK system allows the ruling party to run the country into the ground to protect their own jobs. Embarrassing considering how many would vote to get rid of Truss if their election hopes were not severely diminished.
Didn’t the government already say no, after it hit 50k?
No chance they go for it while polling so badly.
It’s pointless, where have you ever known self-interested people to give up power when they don’t have to. Especially when we talk about the tories, you can’t shame them into doing the right thing because they have no shame.
It’s already been responded too.
> “The United Kingdom is a Parliamentary democracy, not a Presidential one. Following the general election of December 2019, Members of Parliament of the governing party (the Conservative Party) were elected, such that there is a majority in the House of Commons. This remains the case. A change in the leader of the governing party does not trigger a general election – this has been the case under governments of successive political colours.
> The Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 provides that Parliament is automatically dissolved five years after it first meets (unless it is dissolved sooner), otherwise the timing is a matter of discretion for the incumbent Prime Minister (subject to re-established constitutional conventions).
> In her speech of 6 September 2022, the new Prime Minister set out three early priorities: to grow Britain’s economy, deal with the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war, and putting the national health service on a firm footing. The Prime Minister is determined to address the challenges the country faces and ensure opportunity and prosperity for all people and future generations.
> Cabinet Office”
Even if it had 50 million signatures they still wouldn’t hold an early general election, because they know they’d lose.
Even if it were 20 million signatures they’d just table it for a late debate before cocktails, open it, say it’s unfeasible due to a number of reasons, mumble a bit then close it.
They don’t listen to the great unwashed, they’re far too up their own asses for that.
Pretty sure liz once said: I will hold an early election when the petition hits ~~100000~~ ~~200000~~ ~~300000~~ ~~400000~~ ~~500000~~ ~~when the king says it~~ when the rope is around my neck and the peasants have pitchforks
Can someone post the link for signatures please. Thanks
Already had a condescending reply explaining how she was elected and how the system works. It didn’t say anything about whether that system is fair or just in this situation, or the fact that she has no mandate or manifesto approved by the people to do what she is doing. We are locked into an executive elected by 81,000 people for two years.
They won’t hold an early election, even with all the signatories, but it sure does demonstrate that people are unhappy.
If so many people want this petition that’s great but means very little when you have the majority of cunts in this country still for the tories.
And if the 500,000+ were the difference in the last couple of elections… Where the fuck were they the first time round?
I’m not going to Cling to any false hope when it has been made clear over the past decade we are in a country of irredeemable morons.

The government have stated that we don’t vote for a president, and they’re carrying on regardless.
Link for the petition [here](https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619781). 👍
