>Boris Johnson is facing a backbench revolt against the government’s rejection of calls for cases of rape in the armed forces to be taken out of the military courts, where defendants are far less likely to be found guilty.
The conviction rates says it all. 59% in normal court Vs 9% in military court. Fuck that.
And yet the government want to bring in a replacement for the RMPs because of what happened in Kenya where a woman was murdered.
What exactly does this government want?????
They should keep military prison for the people convicted though. Civilian prison doesn’t make you get up at 0500 to do PT in the rain.
I agree that serious crimes committed in the military should be tried in a civilian court, unless it involves heavily classified official secrets that would pose a significant national security threat if made public.
The criminal justice system is transparent. Military courts aren’t.
