It definitely depicts a Greek community located at modern Turkey. You can see a couple of turkish hats.
The subject is something that needs sticks. I thought of croquet. It was very popular back then, but I can’t see the sticks clearly.
Also I notice there are two different letter on the shirts of the athletes. One likes a “L” and the other one like “Θ”. Probably different schools? Competing on something.
Also I suggest to check the back of picture where usually the name/store of photographer is put and usually some date/year is printed
